Several years ago, Sports Illustrated conducted a study to determine the root of home field advantage. Their results pointed to only one significant factor: the referees. Not the crowd, not familiarity with the stadium, nothing else. Refs are people and can’t help but be influenced by cheering/booing.

When the refs blew the facemask penalty early in the Iron Bowl, it’s possible the boos raining down on them affected them, consciously or subconsciously. Alabama fans felt we got screwed last night. LSU fans felt that way in Tuscaloosa earlier in the season. Alabama felt that way last year in Knoxville. Etc, etc

It doesn’t account for every bad call, but, if you are the home team, expect a little home cooking from the refs, and, if you are the away team, don’t expect any favors.

LSU literally beat Bama last year due to a missed block in the back on their game winning TD and still had the audacity to cry "MUH REFS BENEFITED MUH BAMA GOLALALALA BULALALA *incoherent cajun noises*".

These are "people" (and I use that term very loosely) who clearly have a higher chromosome count than IQ.

This year, they melted down and claimed the refs screwed them... over a hit administered by Bama that literally drew a flag on the player who made the hit.

I don't agree with many left wing policies but the fact that these unabashed retards are overwhelmingly right wing is why I'll never fully embrace the conservative movement.

More of an offshoot of Homo neanderthalensis. Somehow made their way over the ice bridge and wandered down to where the entire continent empties it's sewage and said "yep, this looks like a good place to call home."

Sure and the missed tipped pass by LSU prior to the PI call that gave Bama new life wasn't a factor that almost cost the game.

Wins huge exciting game last night against his rival.

Wakes up, logs onto an LSU website and spews venom at LSU.

Calling OPI there would have been the worst call of all time

So, goes against your hypothesis in the OP?

Got it.

The hypothesis is not that the refs make every bad call possible. It’s that, on average, they are going to slightly favor the home team.

It's not a block in the back when the blocker engages in the front and the defender then turns his back. That's what happened on that play.

Cry more.
