It took Saban decades to build up what he had as far as recruiting. That competitive advantage is gone. DeBoer and his staff will have to go up the rough side of the mountain to get anywhere close to where Saban had recruiting.

Truthfully, if what I've heard about Bama's NIL is true they are behind a few other conference foes like Texas, Tennessee, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Georgia.

It’s a different world but that doesn’t mean Bama can’t compete and win. It’s harder for everyone to win now. That’s why you have to credit Kirby for Georgia’s run.

Sabans advantage was that he out worked the others. The NIL/Portal and money just make this a business. Coaches can sit back and buy talent.

I guess we will see how it works out. Buying players didn’t workout for Jimbo Fisher, you still have to be a good coach and he clearly wasn’t!

Looks like Saban is about to manage the entire NIL program or the recruiting element, still.

We shouldn't drop off the face of the map, at least.

But..do you? It's the only real option for football in a very large football centric state ...with many big money boosters.

The fact that UGa didn't succeed at current scale is mind-blowing. Kirby is a very good coach but he has a scenario unlike other that I can think of

I know what has been said but I don't believe it until I see otherwise. I believe Saban will be in Jupiter, FL and working for ESPN during the college football season.

Even if what you say is true, Bama doesn't have the deepest pockets in the conference.

Kirby bought all his players before NIL where he had a competitive advantage. We'll know if he can actually coach a couple years from now when a lot of teams catch up to Georgia.

They still have the refs. That's all the competitive advantage you need.

Didn’t Bama tie with Texas on nil dollars spent at $30m ?

Being a recruiting guru like Saban is over. The coach tells the boosters who he wants and its up to them to get the cash. The coaches just coach them up. IMHO getting a good coach is now more important than hiring a recruiting guru.

Any Alabama fan who thought that things were going to continue just like 2007-2023 was either naive or in denial. Because it’s a different world. We will be fine; our history of excellence didn’t start in 2007. But we may very well not have a “competitive advantage” over everyone else on the planet anymore. I’m OK with it because I am secure in my fandom, which didn’t start in 2007 either.

You dipshits said that very same thing after Stallings resigned.

You got:

DuBose
Franchione
Price
Shula

You never know and it;s going to be impossible to replicate the success of the greatest coach in the history of the sport.

I agree that he will. Players also know he isn’t standing on the sidelines either. We will see either way.
