“Alabama...Lately?” Uhhhhhhh does 1970-2000 qualify as “lately?” How about 1920-present?

You do know Alabama is 29-8-3 in Baton Rouge/N.O., don’t you, and one of LSU’s wins was in 1895. Lately? lately? LATELY? Perhaps you should reconsider that word....

Initially Running Down the Hill was a matter of practicality. Before expansion of the stadium the field house for the football team used to be a few hundred yards away from the hill and the team would enter the field by running down the hill. Which was unique and the fans loved it. That’s how the tradition started.

During a later expansion the best place for the locker rooms was on the total opposite end, level with the field and at the bottom of the natural valley. There wasn’t any stands or buildings there at the time. Although the locker rooms were relocated the tradition of running down the hill remained.

I have had this argument with Clemson fans before and none of them ever mentioned this. They always said it was because the locker room was on the other side, not they originally came out from the field house. That actually makes more sense. But why not keep the locker rooms where they originally were aside from keeping it with the bottom of the natural valley? Or is that the only reason?

False.

LSU and Clemson have never played each other anywhere but in a bowl game. Twice in Hotlanta in the Peach Bowl and once in the Sugar Bowl. Clemson is clearly too scared to visit Baton Rouge.

As mentioned in the article you posted in the OP, we stole Death Valley after beating Clemson in the '59 Sugar Bowl. We didn't copy it, we just stole it with zero apologies.

But really, it doesn't matter if it's Death Valley or Deaf Valley. It's where opponents' dreams come to die. Opponents not named Bama, at least.

Honestly (trolling [OFF]) I think it's a pretty cool tradition.

LSU has a tradition of the band marching down "Victory Hill" into the stadium. They play "Pregame" and those magical four notes that give every true Tiger fan chills down their spine. I can almost taste the bourbon in the air just thinking about it.

To be fair, it's just too damn hot.

I think the biggest reason is it was simply cheaper and easier. Keep in mind this was the late 50s when there wasn’t an “Arms Race” of who has the most elaborate stadium. There is a street at the top of the hill which they probably didn’t want to encroach in.
You can still see the old field house if you look at google maps. It’s the old looking part on the north side of Fike Recreation Center.

Yeah, there kind of was. Clemson just didn't participate.

From about the mid-30s Tulane and LSU had the two largest stadiums in the South up until Tennessee made an expansion in the early 70s, due to that kind of 'arms race'.

That is so true. I don't think any LSU fans or locals call Tiger stadium, "Death Valley". People refer to LSU football with Tiger stadium.

Cool. I would imagine being close to a larger city would help draw in that population. Clemson was out in the middle of nowhere, still kind of is.

Touche.

Let's just say pre-Dabo Clemson was scared. I won't hate on Dabo.

LSU only started calling itself Death Valley after the SEC Tigers swiped it from the ACC Tigers following the two teams’ meeting in the 1958 Sugar Bowl.

And when and if Clemson leads the series, they can have it back.
