sadly, he is. He has made this comment several times. He is ignorant of ATM's history of cheating.

Chizik did all of that too, and we won't find anyone who is going to call him a great coach.

Difference being Chizik failed miserably as a head coach at other places. Sumlin was pretty good before arriving in College Station.

Also, your strong point last year was the offense, and you lost Kliff Kingsbury.

Offense looked fine in the Cotton Bowl, and a team running the same system, and the play caller being a guy that has been with Sumlin for five years, would make you think there isn't going to be too much different scheme and execution wise. I don't know why that would give you pause.

quote:

What many posters are saying is that A&M is already there and ready to compete every year for titles.

Given, a great coach, we are ready to compete every year for a title. We have a guy that could be a great coach already here.

quote:

Being in an "elite position" is one thing and competing consistently is another.

And that can change pretty quickly one way or the other. Do you really think A&M is incapable of winning it all this year? Biases aside, Sumlin has shown he can beat Saban. If he does it again, one loss down the road, A&M is still in Atlanta. You can't win them all, upsets happen, etc. But A&M is a top ten team this year, and has the best player in college football. National Title is ambitious, but if A&M doesn't win it, they are still a top ten to top five team in the country this season. And Sumlin will just keep on rolling.

Lol. Obviously not. We had Bear Bryant and Jackie Sherrill. Two of the most notorious cheaters in college football history. We are just like Auburn.

That's right, you get Vandy instead of Florida this year--Nice!

And Bama gets Kentucky instead of Georgia--Nice!

And LSU gets Florida and Georgia--Nice!

Not really, if A&M loses to LSU, they won't be going to Atlanta as LSU will only lose to UGA.

That's correct, all LSU has to do is repalace nine starters on defense, replace their sucker punching star RB, learn a totally new offense, and beat Bama, TAM, Florida, Georgia, and Ole Miss--Easy Peasy!

Clarence McKinney's first game as Offensive Coordinator was against Oklahoma:

41 Points

23 for 35 with 1 INT, 307 yards passing - 2 TD (65.7 completion %)

326 yards rushing on 31 carries (10.5 ypc) - 4 TD

1 turnover

0 sacks allowed

3.0 total tackles for loss allowed

2 offensive penalties for 10 yards

Pretty much, except for the "easy-peasy" part.

***wait a minute***

"Ole Miss"? WTF?

Going 2-1 vs Bama, UF and UGA is do-able for LSU.

But, c'mon, my post isn't as outrageous as the aggie's:

Yeah, all they have to do is beat Bama and go 7-1 in their second season in the SEC.

Meh. You throw Pat Dye and Barry Switzer in there and you have the Mount Rushmore of cheaters. Two of them coached in Aggieland. Just saying.

The Rebs lost to TAM 30-27 and lost to LSU 41-35 last year.

If they can improve their defense, who knows.
They seem to match up well against the Aggies.

Ah. I will admit being wrong on that one since I thought KK was still there for that game.

That is hugely different than saying he is a great coach which is part of what you are saying is necessary for a team to be great and compete every year. He has had one good year at A&M, but if he does it again, I will be ready to say he is a great coach. We have no idea how well he can develop players, and if he can effectively replace the holes on his team. He is at least a very good game planner, but there is more to being a great coach than that. Right now, I am putting him in the same group as Muschamp who are potentially great coaches but are not there yet.

You guys could absolutely win next year. I am skeptical right now that you can continue it over the next few years especially when Manziel has left.

ETA: Because I felt I was a bit unclear, I am not saying A&M needs to win a national championship to be considered relevant because that is ridiculous. For me, I need to see another 10+ win season before I can say that last season was not an anomaly.

If TAM hadn't loss to Florida last year, they would have won the SEC West.

Bama can thank the SEC schedulers for all the titles they won last year.

Fair enough, but the anomaly will be because Kevin Sumlin turned out to be Gene Chizik, not because A&M having a ten win season is anomalous for our program. In the 90s we had 5 ten win seasons(3 9 win seasons and one undefeated season no less), 4 conference championships, and were only ineligible for a bowl twice(one due to being ineligible).
