While I wouldn't be as hopeless and despondent as you are about it, I do think you have a point here. Greg McElroy and Taylor Zarzour were talking about this this morning on The First Team, using the TCU-Texas Tech 55-52 game as an example. That game, where both teams moved up and down the field at will and there was no defense, just didn't feel like real football. There's a reason not many people watch the Arena League.

That said, I think this can be improved a lot with a few easy fixes. First, they've got to get much stricter in penalizing linemen downfield on pass plays. Defenders have to be able to read a lineman's behavior as a run/pass key. Second, defenses have to be given ample time to substitute personnel between plays. Run as wide open an offense as you want, but give the defense a chance to set up and try to stop you. Finally, ease up on the ticky-tack personal foul and pass interference penalties. Obviously call the blatant ones, but give the defender the benefit of the doubt in the marginal cases. Doing these three things would vastly improve the game without making everyone run the power I.

You sir, could not have stated this any more perfectly!!!!!!!

Damn it, corn dog. Good post and great observations. I commend you sir, for that was an excellent summary on the state of pin ball offense being played. Ironically, if you happen to see any FCS games (formerly D1-AA to the lay person), the tackling and jarring hits to the head are not nearly as detrimental to the players. Obviously because the athletes themselves are not as big as the LSU's, Ohio State's, USC's, Oklahoma's etc... We may one day see weight limits in major football down the road, a lot like high school and collegiate wrestling. You may end up seeing football survive by going "smaller", believe it or not. Smaller but not slower.

Speak for yourself Larry, Florida's always been about speed, only an idiot would have tried to make a power run offense Florida's primary attack.

Didn't read thread but can attest that Bama, yes BAMA, has the longest college football game in all of D1 this season at 4:05 total time.

That's not normal.

Go ahead and give up the ship. We will stand alone as the only true NFL feeder school . Besides Ohio State of course.
