If the rest of The American gets some decent OOC wins, Cincinnati wins @ Indiana and @ ND and then goes undefeated.......they'll have a legitimate shot to be in the playoff discussion.

- UCF/Boise
- Temple/Rutgers
- Texas Tech/Houston
- S Carolina/ECU
- Tulsa/Okie St
- UCF/Louisville
- Temple/BC
- Memphis/Miss St

If they can grab 4-5 of those, get some decent computer numbers and then Cincinnati can beat all those conference teams plus have road wins over Indiana/Notre Dame......they'll have as good a non-P5 resume as anybody has in the playoff era.

Dumb. Useless.

Polls should start coming out after 3-4 weeks. This is nothing more than a projection.

That is 14 consecutive years being #1 at least one week for Alabama.

Thats the AP poll but Im sure it matches the coaches. It is a record btw. Miami is second at 7 years

I checked & it is both. Alabama has been ranked #1 at least once a season in both AP and Coaches polls starting in 2008.

This makes 14 years in the Coaches poll. The AP hasn't come out yet.

I’m going on record that all preseason polls are crap. It creates bias that carries on throughout the season. Plenty of years team A will have a the same record as B with a better resume yet be ranked well below because of preseason rankings.

Has UTA ever begun a season unranked in the last decade?

I've never seen a school get off the hook so easy besides maybe southern cal.

I see that 63 of the 65 coaches who voted did so for Alabama at #1. Two coaches voted for OU. I bet Saban was one of the two.

That stuff was so funny.

Notre Dame starts preseason #10. Texas beats them in a shootout week 1, goes from unranked to #11, Notre Dame falls to #18. Both are out of the top 25 by week 5 and remain unranked the rest of the season. Texas finishes 5-7 and Notre Dame 4-8

The SEC gets tougher and Ohio State and Clemson still have a cakewalk to the playoffs.

Doesn't seem like a great idea for the other SEC teams or Texas and Oklahoma.

FL seems massively overrated with their QB situation.

Their just gonna have to extend the playoffs at some point. 6-8 makes sense to me. But getting out of the SEC is wayyyyyy harder than any other conference by far.

#12 Oregon
#17 Indiana
#20 Penn State

I could say the same about Oklahoma
#8 Iowa State
#19 Texas
#22 Oklahoma State

Wouldn't shock me to see all of those teams unranked by season's end

The Big 12 has been every bit as easy as the Big 10

Big Ten is pretty deep with solid teams, but they don't have anyone in the elite category outside of Ohio State. Penn State has shown some flashes under Franklin, but they are the only other school who has had the athletes at any point to compete with Ohio State the way UGA, Auburn, LSU, Florida, etc compete with Alabama.

The Big Ten is basically Ohio State and a bunch of Kentucky/Missouri/Miss States (no offense boys).

As noted above, you can say the same thing about the Big Twelve. And the ACC. And the Pac 12.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of hype for Emory Jones. Maybe the scouts are seeing something that I'm not, but he has never impressed me when I've seen him play. They also lose their top 3 receiving leaders from last year. They're ranked towards the bottom in the country in returning production as a team

You're right, but it's only a projection of the season to come.

quote:

By their very nature, preseason polls are essentially guesses. They’re educated guesses, but since no football has been played, they should never be taken as ultimate predictors of success or failure.

They can, however, be gauges of the anticipation levels in various college towns throughout the country. But first and foremost, they should generate excitement, because their arrival means the season is near at hand.
