So the SEC doesn't hire refs, they are assigned by I guess the NCAA or some other broad D1 BBall organization. The problem is the new rule emphasis and how refs are too incompetent to properly/consistently call the game.
The idea was the new rule change would force players to adjust their game. Unfortunately, they didn't realize the inconsistency makes it impossible for any player to know how to adjust

I have been saying this for the past 6 years. The refs are beyond garbage.

Basketball, football, baseball............it doesn't matter what sport it is. With as much money as the Conference is making, you would think they could go out and hire competent officials.

I agree 100% with OP. The inconsistency of SEC basketball officiating is unreal.

Since the rules changed 3 years ago 'tic tac' fouls are the norm. Coaches and AD's make the changes. Not officials. Referees HATE calling the game this way.

Then it gets called completely different in the NCAA tournament where they let them play.

Its fricking ridiculous how the refs control the outcomes of these SEC games. I'm convinced there's some shady shite going on with Vegas lines and the refs as that is the only plausible explanation for how atrocious they call games

There's going to be 3, maybe 4 tournament teams this year, it's still really awful.
