Just the opposite. The network wants the game to air on prime time but both schools have agreed to play the game early to avoid any issues between the two rival fan bases. The enviroment outside surrounding the game during the state fair would make things a little iffy if played late.

It speaks that Fox wants to have the premiere game in that time slot.
While there are fewer viewers in that slot, it guarantees a large percentage of them will be watching that game.
It makes sense from Fox’s perspective. Even if that game were to be the biggest at 3:30, they would still split viewers with other good games.

Game is on ABC this year.
ESPN game will be Georgia Auburn or Ole Miss Arkansas
FOX game hasn’t been announced but maybe Maryland vs Ohio State

Supposedly it's because since the game is in the center of the Texas state fair they do not want both fan bases drinking all day acting like fools during and after the game late at night.
As a parent who takes my boys' every year, I can say I'm okay with the early start. In 2019, even in the morning, idiot college guys were getting in my 9th graders face. At about 9:00am and plastered drunk. Papa Bear about regulated that day.

This is part of it.. the other part is that it isn’t the best area of town after the lights go down..

The time slot has nothing to do with interest. It’s a bad blood rivalry split 50/50 and they have always had it in the AM for good reason. I do think years ago they tried it in an afternoon time slot and it was a disaster due to fights and I believe there were guns involved.

Exactly. You don’t want to have to move about to get to your car after sundown in that part of Dallas. I wish they would move the game to Jerry World and play it at night. Really I would like to see it go home and home but doubt that will ever happen. Would love to see the merchants at Norman benefit from the game every other year. One more thing…….you will never ever convince me it is a neutral site as long as it’s played in Texsa.
