Hey man, we kicked the Big 12's arse in 1998. Even ruined KSU's GOAT season in the process.
That '98 KSU team was incredible and had a great chance to win the NC...BUT...
Bob Stoops had just been hired at OU and totally raided the K-State coaching staff before the Big 12 Championship.
He took: Mike Stoops, Brent Venables, Mark Mangino and maybe more. I can't remember. Totally fricked KSU's best season ever.
(And Tech-related, he also got Mike Leach from Kentucky.)
So A&M played against a great team that was missing their most important coaches, and didn't you win by a FG in double-overtime?
I'm not saying the conference title shouldn't count or anything like that. Of course it should and does. However, A&M did come into that game under a very fortunate set of circumstances.

Damn that’s some good intel. Didnt realize that about the coaches. KSU was still heavily favored. To the point where the entire broadcast was about KSU and they barely acknowledged A&M was even there.
And Brent Mushmouth couldn’t stop talking about their kicker Martin Automattica Grammatica. And of course he pumped up Michael Bishop all game.
But A&M played great to end the game and stopped them in OT. So when Sirr Parker took it to the house that was ballgame.
Then we played Tennessee in the bowl game and got trounced.

Have played ND twice - and it’s not an isolated event. As a refresher, since we joined the SEC we’ve also played in OOC:
AZ State, UCLA twice, Miami twice, Colorado, and Clemson twice (when they were #1 and playoff contenders)

The BCS Metro is one of those most strategically positioned hubs in the state.
It's currently booming.
Also, there's loads of nice country in the Brazos Valley, if you know where to look.

That sounds like something Mushmouth would do. He had a habit of totally ignoring one team.
People forget how good the original Big 12 was, the North in the beginning, with the South dominating in the 2000s. People definitely forget that elite defense was played alongside those legendary offenses. It was tough going.

Texas Tech has probably the best-run Athletics Dept in the country, and has been for quite some time.
Their team is legit.
They would beat 75% of SEC teams right now. The Big 12 is far better top to bottom than B1G. Better in football, baseball, and basketball.

Vandy and MSU would boat race Texas Tech right now LOL. Texas Tech is good, they have played no one and they do not have the depth to beat 75% of the SEC....

So the answer is no, Texas Tech has not played anyone and their schedule is the normal snooze fest that they have always played. Got it.

We did win the Big 12. Beat your in-state betters at KSU in the championship game. KU, however, has zero Big 12 football championships and you've been it it much longer.
Anyhow, I liked the Big 12 just fine when it was first formed. Like everybody else, we just got sick of the sips trying to tilt the board in their favor all the time and we had an attractive exit.

I’m not a tech fan or grad but saying Lubbock is a dump when you went to school in Bryant/College Station is a bit tone deaf because that town ain’t much to write home about either.
The area right off campus at Tech is dangerous. The town itself has no features to it and is dry, flat, and dusty. It's also a long way from anything.
College Station is at least pretty green and has a true college town feel to it. Plenty to do there with lots of restaurants and cool bars. It's an hour from Houston, less than 2 to Austin, 3 to San Antonio or D/FW, 2 hours to the Coast.
BTW, I've been to Columbia and it's not exactly like you should be smack talking. It's a smaller and less interesting version of CS on a good day.

Sarge, I bet you havent been to Lubbock in 20 yrs. It's a nice college town with plenty of great places and rich neighbirhoids. It's also the regional center of 2milloin plus people for healthcare/technology/agriculture.
Problem is, it's so freakin far from DFW/SanAntonio/Hiuston.

Lubbock has some oil money but not that much really. The folks that want to live next to the business are in Midland. The folks that have serious wealth are in DFW or Houston and just fly out when they have to. Sure you can find a place to have a steak and spend some money but it's pretty limited.
I have family from all over the Panhandle and my wife is from Big Spring. It's marginally better than it was 30 years ago to visit as there are a few things to do but it still sucks. I've got many friends who went to Tech and plenty of their kids go there but it's still the place people who can't get into A&M or Texas go, I don't know of anyone who has it as a first choice. At my son's school it was Texas/A&M, then other SEC schools that offered scholarships making it close to in state tuition(lot of those), then Tech. You do have the folks from the area that go there and that's fine too as it is basically the only big school in West Texas.

If you're acknowledging ignirance, I'll agree with you.
Between OU, Nebraska, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas St, the Big 12 was at tge epicenter of the National Championship every year for its first 10 yrs.

There’s definitely worse places to hang out. I would take it over Austin at this point and it hurts to say that.
Thanks fir the honesty, but it's absolutely true. What the liberal culture has done to the beautiful Hiil Ciuntry/Heart of Texas is a crying shame.
Given the two choices, I'd pick Lubbock because West Texas people are salt of the earth.

I've heard K-State fans bitch about it for 25+ years as the reason they went to shite their last two games that year. I've seen Bob talk about feeling guilty doing that to Snyder, but he needed a staff in Norman as soon as possible to start recruiting.
But I'm not sure about Mangino now that I think about it. He may have come in the following year after Leach left for Tech. Or maybe he did come with the others and was just promoted after Leach left.

Tech is getting the most they can out of what they have I'll grant them that. Lubbock is such a shithole and so far from anything. Congrats on having some rich donors throwing money at NIL
It’s just a little funny that you could swap Tech for Aggy and Lubbock for College Station, and it would still be just as accurate
