In 1986 the University of Tennessee and the University of Texas agreed to share the well-known interlocking “UT” trademark that both schools use. Tennessee applied for registration of the trademark for the sale of jewelry, paper, metal and leather goods, as well as printed matter, housewares, glassware, and clothing. Texas owned registration of the trademark for educational and entertainment goods. Tennessee’s and Texas’s trademarks are different but similar enough to cause confusion to manufacturers, who have used them interchangeably in the past. The agreement gave Texas commercial rights to the trademark west of the Mississippi River and Tennessee the rights east of the Mississippi and in West Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana (home of LSU).

Excellent point! I think you're exactly right. In order to prevent the confusion of two "stormtroopers" and two "UT's" in the same conference, we humbly decline your generous offer to save us all by joining the SEC and suggest you look somewhere more suited to your elite talent and history. We think, based upon geography and talent, you would fit rather well in the Sun Belt Conference where no one would question whether or not you were real stormtroopers and there would be no confusion over two schools known as "UT."

We tried the Sun Belt, but they declined. The SEC was our last option, so thankfully y’all accepted.. but yes you are stuck with us.

Again, Texas and Tennessee both have rights to the UT logo and Tennessee has used it longer. Yes, UT has a stormtrooper uniform just like Texas and every other team with white in their color scheme

Link? The UTk website says that Texas owned the UT trademark.. so i’m pretty sure they wouldn’t pay anyone else to not use it.. Either way, I’m done with this argument.
