While Texas played in the Big 12, the conference heavily restricted the gesture. In 2021, Big 12 coordinator of officials Greg Burks announced that an opponent flashing a "Horns Down" directly at a Texas player would "probably be a foul" for unsportsmanlike conduct

yes, that happened because Texas wide receiver Mike Davis got flagged for doing a "guns down" celebration in Lubbock.

Then after the game, Mack Brown said:

quote:

"The Horns Down are disrespectful for players on the field. If Horns Down are OK, we ought to have Guns Down be OK. We ought to talk about that as a league."

How could you possibly disagree with that stance? The Big 12 should allow Horns down but not guns down?

Of course not, so they banned all "disrespectful" hand signs.

They flagged Baylor for a "thumbs down" to the Aggie fans too.

Look, friend, everyone knows what the head of officials said. Nothing of that sort had ever been uttered before or since so yes the point stands and it was not fantasy. Just own to the truth

He reminds me of a keyboard warrior. Talking shite knowing the Gators wouldn’t smoke his punk asse. Once you inject yourself in the field you should be fair game!

He said that in response to a reporter's question about horns down being a penalty at B12 media days, because they announced they were cracking down on taunting. Not sure what that proves

a similar example of what? a reporter asking a question about another school's hand sign? I doubt one exists because no one gets headlines like Texas, so I guess you win, congrats!

The full quote is:
quote:

"Let me put it this way: If you do a Horns Down to a Texas player as an opponent, that's probably going to be a foul. Please all of you note, I said 'probably.' We have to consider intent and consider the situation. We'll leave it to officials."

And then:
quote:

"Let me be very clear with horns down... please, the state of Oklahoma I meant no offense. You don't have to send me any emails. It is not about Horns Up or Horns Down, it is the manner that you do anything on the field to an opponent in an unsportsmanlike manner."

Obviously if you put your hand in an opponent's face in any configuration, it's going to draw a flag. He had to keep mentioning Horns down because people kept asking him about it.

All jokes aside. Texas is a pretty damn good school for academic study. At least as far as the Sciences and Engineering goes. Right up there with Michigan, Ohio State, and such.

I've worked around a few grads. Pretty solid.
