“A distinction without a difference” describes a distinction that is technically true but has no meaningful practical effect.
In other words, someone points out a subtle difference between two things, but the difference doesn’t change the outcome, significance, or understanding of the situation.
**Example:**
“Whether a Texas player skipped draft and went to a pro team, and the LSU player was undrafted and worked out with a pro team, Texas still has a player with benefits of working with a pro team."
It’s often used to criticize overly technical arguments or wordplay.

LSU really needs to let this thing die. I get signing the guys in case they could play. You'd rather them on your team than someone else's team. But now that the SEC has voted unanimously (LSU brass included) to not allow guys to come back from the NFL training camps despite the uniqueness of this particular class's circumstances, they need to let it go and focus on Clemson.

I think that's what LSU is doing. If these guys were gonna be eligible we wanted in. If not then cool.

I'm pretty sure that the players on the field when the whistle blows will be focused on the game. But there are players that feel like they have been disenfranchised and will be fighting in court for their cause. In this day of lawyers and judges It's Not Over whether you want it to be or not.

When I go down to my local gym, I go to "work out." These boys in camp are in the NFL and trying to make a roster. Making these NFL camps sound like a trip to your local YMCA is delusional.

If someone didn't sign an NFL contract, didn't get paid, didn't play in a game, was never listed on a roster and was still registered to attend the same university for the next fall...those are not subtle differences.
