Yeah people bringing up the Iron Bowl being cancelled for 40 years are comparing apples to bowling balls.
When it was cancelled it was freaking 1907 and college football was still a small little game that nobody on a national scale really cared all that much about.
I'm sure people barely even noticed or cared when it was called off then. Games had a few hundred people at them and were played in parks and stuff.
Trying to compare that to calling off a 100 year rivalry like 3 years ago doesn't fly.

My take:
A&M is butthurt from what they consider decades of playing second fiddle to Texas and basically is telling them F U
Texas is now scared to play A&M as they realize they very well might now be the B team in the state going forward with A&M's move to the SEC.
So both teams are content with not playing.

Almost got it. But Texas' was butthurt when A&M left, and their arrogant attitude was that A&M needed the game more. A&M offered to play, Texas refused.
Now A&M realizes that the tables have turned and Texas needs the game more. So A&M is letting them twist in the wind.
Texas hates getting pwned, so they offer pre-emptive strikes like they don't want to play. Texas has proven time and again (with the LHN as an example) that they are not trustworthy on their word.

So you're upset that Patterson said he didn't want it to happen and that Strong said he did? That makes sense. What is someone supposed to do when they get asked a question?
No, not at all. They are free to have opinions. I'm tired of news articles (and thus threads) of their ever-changing opinions.
As far as how to answer them, Sumlin just gives a shrug and asks for the next question. I dunno. I just don't get why they spend time answering it over and over and over and over and over. I think it's a concerted effort on their part to keep it in the news tbh

In fairness to the students... it's the whole damn town. In '75 we went into a Lubbock McD's before the game, sat down to eat, and a 70-ish woman stood up on her table and screamed at us "Get the frick out of here! Aggies suck!" over and over. We didn't move, which only made her madder. We were mesmerized.

I've never had any desire to go to Lubbock.

I got you man. I honestly think that both teams want this rivalry to continue at some point, but I'm sure with Strong and Patterson being new to the organization they probably aren't certain how to go about it yet. Sumlin seems like he's handled the talk of play against Texas better than Strong so far, but I'm sure Texas wants to talk about it because their recruiting is pretty bad right now and they want to find a way to go back to being the top University in the state.

Yeah. I want generations of Ags that know nothing but the SEC. Our Lone Star arrogance combined with SEC arrogance is going to be soooo awesome.

I really don't have a dog in this fight, but since you are in the SEC, I do have an opinion.
College football is changing rapidly and your former conference seems to be going in a ugly direction, whereas You and Missouri are making one hell of a statement in this conference. You can stand in the middle of your stadiums, follow your recruiting, see it in the media, follow the cash, and you can tell it was the best decision you could possibly have made. Nothing like this would be going on if you were still in the Big Whatever. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think so. Missouri was one win away from playing for a NC. Everyone is on equal footing. It's a question of how much the University wants to put into it.
From what I can tell, in your previous conference, your rivalry with fricking UT was meant to be a one-sided affair that they controlled for the most part. That's not a rivalry, that's being a chump. frickum
by the way watching Ole Miss thrash the hell out of them was pretty damn sweet!
Let the corndogs knock you out of a shot at the NC then you will realize that you should have built a fire first.

What does your last sentence mean? Build a fire?

Wasn't it the UT game that you built the big bonfire?
You'll have to forgive me, I'm an SEC guy.

Most fans on either side will say that we should play. WTF is the point of football if you don't play the teams you hate.
Posted on 4/26/14 at 8:13 am to DropKick70
Ah I gotcha. Misunderstood what you meant. You are correct, we used to build the Aggie Bonfire before the UT game on Thanksgiving.
But we don't need one for LSU. We need a defense.

Have to call bullshite on that one.
You guys don't care to play and have the opportunity to beat the shite out of Texas?
If Kansas had anything near a respectable football program I'd still be yearning for that game annually. As it is now though it's meaningless with them being so bad.
UT A&M are actually close talent wise annually though and those bragging rights could definitely help in recruiting

IF the sec goes to 9 conference games, i got to believe big non conference games go bye bye after a few cycles of 9 sec games.
