The B1G however is still courting Texas and its no secret that the academic side in Austin favored the B1G over the SEC. The major hurdle was the B1G has no interest in Oklahoma. And Texas seems to have joined itself at the hip with OU. If the B1G was to reverse its decision on OU, then anything is possible.
Texas and Oklahoma will be in the SEC barring some insane unforeseen development. So it looks like they've got no choice but to figure it out and get better, and perhaps take some lumps along the way.

Here in Oklahoma this is what we are hearing. I don't know if it's credible.
ESPN wants to settle with Texas in order to get rid of the LHN. ESPN has recommended that Texas use the cash to pay their buyout for the Big XII. They have also recommended that Texas pay for OU's buyout. Texas isn't too keen on that idea but it's really the only way that OU can leave early.
So Texas' best option would be to come by themselves now and Oklahoma to come later. However the SEC doesn't think that is logistically feasible.
The kicker is that if Texas doesn't do this and have to stay in the Big XII until 2025...they will actually lose more money than if they pay OU's way out of the Big XII because of the difference in payouts between the two leagues.

I doubt Texas will back out but I do feel they should do what is best for the University. I believe they have already examined all their options and chose the right one for them.
I believe they will be competitive but it may take time.

Texas will drag it out as long as they can. They can't even win in the BIG 12. Gonna be ugly for them in the SEC
West.
Recruiting players to play in the Big 12 is a lot harder than recruiting them to the New SEC. I think that is why it will happen sooner than later.

The middle of the pack SEC Program is getting twice the exposure as both OU and UT right now. And OU is still in the CFP discussion. UT wants to be relevant again, it is not going to happen to any team in the Big 12 anytime soon.

Texas could at least be competitive in the Big10 west. As it stands right now they may have to make Texas - Vandy as a permanent rival so they can win at least 1 game a year, and maybe luck their way into a bowl if they pull Mizzou or South Cackalacky.

UT will be able to catch up quickly.

In football Texas isn’t going to be competitive for awhile. But on the hard court and the diamond it’s a different story. SEC baseball is already the most competitive sport
