Also, a 3.0 GPA is the requirement to submit an application. It ain't like a 3.0 at UTSA guarantees you a spot.

It isn’t a bad thing.

Just don’t walk and talk like you’re smarter and richer than everybody when you had to spend a year or two at a feeder program just to get a random degree.

The message board-education smack talk never fails

But isn’t not like you’re getting turned down either. That’s what we are poking fun at. You guys aren’t the biggest nerds or hardest school to get into anymore. That nerd is Vandy, and they never brag about it.

How the hell do you know that? I agree, Vandy's a good school. I mean, I guess. I don't know what they're better at than us. Definitely not engineering or computer science, according to the rankings.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to disrespect your alma mater, UTSA. I’m sure your Liberal Arts/Sports Management degree is paying off though

No disrespect taken LSUStephen. It’s no ITT Tech, but I get by.

You have to be top 6% of your high school to get into Texas. That eliminates 94% (stay with me here I know math is complicated) of the pool of applicants who want a great education from a top 10 public university

There a lot of schools where a whole lot of the 94% getting shut out deserve the opportunity to matriculate at a top 10 public university.

Instead they get replaced by the least stupid mouthbreathers at Failing ISD Highs all across Texas who managed out outlast their meth addicted teenage parent classmates to make it across the graduation stage.

Not a dig at Texas, moreso the percantage based admission rules in Texas in general. But let's not pretend an entire student based largely class ranks alone is some holy grail of achievement. Texas could have a better, more competitive student body overall without the dumbass Top x% rule.

Texas got an exception. They can reduce the percentage as needed to stay under a capped enrollment number. UT Austin just doesn't have the real estate necessary to grow their enrollment beyond a certain number.

Yep. Meanwhile A&M is taking advantage of that fact and growing like crazy.

That’s the truth. Have been building a ton of larger projects around campus and we ran out of room a long time ago. The skyline on west side is too tall and keeps going.

That’s why you have suburban kids transferring to shitty high schools in their area for their SR year and applying from there.

Then you have the kids who were in the Top 6% at shitty high schools and don’t last a year at Texas/Texas A&M because they had no business being there in the first place.

Regardless, the message board-education smack talk is lame but undefeated. Everyone’s school produces doctors and engineers and everyone’s school produces recruiters and JR High football coaches.

I hear you but those mouthbreathers deserve a shot too. UT's mission is to serve the state, not just Houston/Dallas/Austin/San Antonio.

Transferring is what most should do anyhow. It saves money and getting into where you want is stupid easy with 60 credit hours.

Disagree. They definitely deserve a shot somewhere. But not necessarily at UT (or A&M).

If they can't get in based on an academic record that stands up to those coming out of the top schools in the big metros, then they shouldn't get in. Some kids coming out of those crappy schools manage truly stellar academic records that can compete with anyone. Thise kids should absolutely get a shot. Others produce C-average valedictorians-by-default. They should go elsewhere.

Let the records speak for themselves, and take the kids that deserve to be taken. The top x% laws hold UT and A&M both back from being what they could be.

When I was at A&M, it was flying up the college rankings, and basically on par with UT. Generally ranked within a few spots of UT in pretty much every ranking published.

Then dumbass Rick Perry appoints his dumbass buddy John Sharp as Chancellor who decided to treat A&M like a business and figured he could increase revenue endlessly by increasing enrollment thusly, and it all went to shite. Sad.

Increase revenue he certainly did. In a HUGE way.
