taking Missouri and letting OU walk to the pac12 would be a big mistake.

Tech also is a fantastic academic institution on par with ga tech
from everything i have read, ga tech is significantly more prestigious and reputable than va tech. i would even say a&m has a better academic rep than va tech.

still not understanding the love for va tech. they don't bring anything to the the sec that can't be done much better by several other schools.

NW and North in the Ozark and Ouachita mountains is much like eastern Tennessee. The south, central, and eastern parts are more southern due to the fertile agricultural soil.

I'm not in favor of expansion. A 12-team conference is large enough. This is what I might favor for 14. Remove Vanderbilt & Kentucky. Add TAMU. Also add UNC, NC State & Duke as a package deal.

Well i guess being from VA I have a different opinion on the two main VA schools. UVA is the better traditonal academic school but Tech has picked up a ton in tje past 15 Years or so from what Ive seen.

Va tech does offer academics and football, but not much else in the way of other sports. I think the SEC will expand, but I have no idea who. Dont see FSU or miami or really any school east of the mississippi.

[quote]I said it yesterday, and ill say it again. Mizzou is worthless to the SEC. I have no problem adding A and M but Mizzou just adds nothing. At all.[/quote

I'm not understanding all the Missouri disrespect. They came just one game away from the national championship in 2007, which is a hell of a lot more than A&M has accomplished over the last 10 or 12 years. They beat Oklahoma this year, which is like beating one of the upper SEC teams. They also completely skullfricked Arkansas in a bowl game in recent years. They wouldn't win the conference but they would be competitive and have their fair share of upsets. To say they bring nothing at all is an ignorant statement.

So remove the greatest basketball program of all time in favor of a school that, while great at basketball, isn't as good at either basketball or football? Makes sense.

Texas A&M belongs with us in the SEC, period.

Mizzu, ain't going to happen but would accept them.

Georgia Tech would be the ideal school IMO.

I didn't realize till earlier today that Memphis went 0-12 last year and lost by at least two touchdowns every game, and in most cases 3 or 4. I knew they were bad, but wow.

Missouri would be an awful fit. Fayetteville already feels like a bridge too far. Columbia is way too hell and gone from everywhere else in the SEC.

I can't see the SEC taking them. Ever.

Honestly, I'm not even sure that A&M is a good fit but they would love to join us so maybe their "want" is strong enough. Also, the media market is a huge plus.

If I were king, in addition to A&M, I'd add from the following pool:
Florida State, Georgia Tech or Clemson

All 3 schools bring a lot to the table and all 3 states already have an existing SEC member. Georgia Tech is a former SEC team in a huge city that hosts the SECCG and their big rival is UGA. Florida State is in a big state with a natural rivalry with Florida.

I'd add A&M and one of those 3 schools or I wouldn't expand at all. Better to do it right or not at all.

The purpose of expanding is adding new tv markets. Those 3 do not.

It's not only about markets. It's about also about adding new TV's period. That said, A&M still adds way more TV's overall than GT, FSU, and Clemson combined probably. And in a new market to boot.

The best case scenario would be to add TAMU, UNC/NCST, VT/UVA, Maryland to get to 16 teams. That adds 4 states and still fall within the geographical south. From a cultural and passion standpoint, WVU would be a great addition as a school. The problem is that they are located in West Virginia.

Guess I wasn't clear. My apologies.

In addition to A&M, I would consider those 3 schools. I consider it a given that A&M would be invited. The media market is a big factor but A&M has a history with LSU and the Houston market already has a lot of SEC fans and alumni so it's a good fit.

And no, the sole purpose of expanding is not adding new TV markets. But clearly, A&M's big selling point is the Dallas and Houston media markets.

Memphis is a realistic option unlike the others that seem posted in this thread other than A&M. I can promise you that their football program would catch up if they weren't stuck in Conference USA. It's all about the money and exposure. They're a good fit for the East with instant rivalries with Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Just because their program sucks now doesn't mean it wouldn't be jump started. Their basketball program alone demolishes anything in the SEC outside of Florida. Fl State, Va Tech, Miami wouldnt come.

It's them or Clemson and I rather Memphis.

Anyone who wants Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Memphis or Miami is a brain dead imbecile. Those schools add NOTHING to the SEC. NOTHING. We already have their TV markets. In terms of media coverage Mizzou even kicks Oklahoma's arse.

A&M and Mizzou in the West with Virginia Tech and NC State in the East is the clear cut winner hands down. Nothing else even comes close.

I am happy with the SEC as it is, but like it or not conferences are going to expand to 16 teams and there will be four of them. We can be proactive or reactive. I'd prefer the former.

I can see an argument made for the Carolina schools.

We already have Tennessee and South Carolina so North Carolina would complete the puzzle so to speak. South Carolina has a lot of bad blood with UNC from their longago days in the ACC together.

North Carolina is definitely a big media market relative to South Carolina. But it's nigh impossible to see any of the 4 ACC schools in North Carolina ever splintering off. That is the heart of the ACC. Far easier to see the SEC picking off Florida State or Georgia Tech than any school in North Carolina.
