I hate to reply with a serious answer, but he signed a 6 year, 30 million dollar contract that began on Jan 1st, 2014. The 30 million is guaranteed. If we fire him without cause, it says we'll pay the full contract amount within some fairly short timeframe. But we'll be three years into that at the end of this season, so it would cost us 15 million to fire him, assuming it was without cause.
At least, that's how I understand things.

That doesn't seem to make clear what qualifies as "without cause." Obviously infractions by the program could be considered "cause" -- they didn't really need to emphasize that point. But what if they fired him for, say, punching a yell leader or anally violating an Auburn fan? Those are both causes, for sure, but are they considered fire-able causes?

I'm pretty sure assaulting or raping someone would qualify as grounds to fire with "cause" but I'm no legal expert

Every time a coach is fired, the lawyers for the school say they have cause, and the lawyers for the coach say they don't have cause, and then they settle on some number, or go to court. I don't know the language of Sumlin's contract regarding what constitutes cause, but I'm sure he'd get some very big number, but one that is less than $15 million. How much less depends on the exact language of the contract and whether the school can reasonably call the firing for cause.

Yeah, but I'm making a point. How do they define 'cause'? Because clear definitions now help shut down lawsuits later.

the second rate program in Alabama has done better than Texas and ATM combined over the past 30 years.

The rest of the SEC hopes Sumlin stays too.

Great to hear from you. Beginning to think you didn't care.

That's about the same amount that your athletics department owes to the academic administration for the bailout a few years ago (actually, two bailouts).
Still mad that aggy replaced Texas as the country's wealthiest AD?

BTW, the buyout isn't a big deal. Jim Wilson already said he has it covered.
