I don't know why its surprising, Tennessee is a better job than this but not so good that having NCAA problems won't scare some people off. If you manage to get Frank just consider yourselves lucky and go with it.
FWIW I used to lurk on ESPN's college basketball message board from time to time and I remember some Dayton fans talking about how they wanted Gregory fired and Grant to replace him (Grant's alma mater).

If UT is hiring Gregory, it would mean they're passing on better candidates. That's why this would suck.

I believe this scenario was predicted days ago when some drunken vols were crowing about all the high profile coaches they were going to steal away.
