No. It's just a funny mental image. I mean, try to picture it.

Our main library is fricking boss.
But it's also the reason UK is a dry campus.

While not a item of any historical significance, there is a somewhat interesting superstition tied to Tutweiler dorm at Alabama which is the main freshmen girls dorm across from BDS and sorrority row.
For many years now most of the freshmen girls living in Tutweiler have refused to stay at the dorm on Halloween night due to an ancient Nostradomus prediction that supposedly a major massacre would occur at a female dorm of a southern U.S. college near a cemetery near a river caused by a psycho killer who escaped from a nearby mental institution on Halloween. Like many urban legends the description of the scene has likely changed to fit the perceived area but the UA campus and that dorm in particular meet all the requirements of the urban legend. I don't know if some girls still leave Tutweiler for the night but many of them did when I was in school in the mid 90s.

It's wet on Saturdays in the fall. Wetter than most SEC campuses, actually. Cops don't give a frick.
It's not bad, though. Fraternities have party houses right on the edge of campus that they rent out strictly for parties. Just huge, mostly empty houses really.
And you can still drink in on-campus fraternity houses. Most house directors will turn a blind eye.

This commemorates the actions of Auburn students who many many years ago, when Tech was coming to play Auburn, went to the railroad tracks late at night and spread axle grease on the tracks. The train from Atlanta hit the grease and, able to use friction on the rails to stop, slid through Auburn and had to continue to Loachapoka, the next town down the line. The Tech football team had to walk back to Auburn and were so tired from the walk, were defeated handily.
Thug POS.

Story time. Some big donor stipulate a dry campus to receive the funds or something?
Auburn can't have sorority houses on campus due to some female donor's stipulation a long time ago. An AU fan on here could explain better.

That money dried up recently, but they still kept them in the new dorms

Basically in the late 90's, SAE was about to be kicked off campus for something. One of their alums, and the biggest UK donor at the time, William T Young, was the CEO of JIF peanut butter and a big time horse owner. He said, "I'll build you the biggest library in the country if you let them stay". And UK said, "OK, but only if we make campus dry". And that was that.

Can't you just walk right across the street and get booze? How is UK different than most SEC campuses in regards to that?

Damn that guy sold the rest of you down the river. He should have been like "You want the money or not"?

In 1923, when sororities were established at Auburn, women students were required to live on campus or with family. So, sorority houses were not an option. But, sororities were allowed to house all of their members together in a residence hall and use a large basement room as a meeting space. By the time women were allowed to live wherever they wanted, there were several sororities happily established in on-campus housing. Our chapters outgrew their spaces in the Quad Residence Halls and moved to the Hill Residence Halls. After outgrowing the Hill, the sororities were offered the chance to build houses on University land, as many of the fraternities have done, but declined and opted to remain on campus. The sororities have since moved to The Village, Auburn's newest on-campus housing.

Yea. At one of my old apts, this old arse KA would always be at the pool. He was a crazy dude. But where the library is now used to be a huge field, and he would talk about how there would be huge field parties there every single weekend. Most of the fraternities would pool all their funds and just have blowouts every Friday night.
