Then why are UGA fans always crying about move our game out of Jax?

That's a fringe minority of fans. Most want to keep it in Jax; totally understand Kirby wanting to move it to the campuses 'cuz of recruiting, etc.

Plus...Kirby can't wait to beat y'all's ponderosa's "in da' swampbucket!"

We're generally cool because we sucked until the 80s, then everyone got mad because we had an epic run. Now we're sucking so the bandwagon fans aren't as likely to be up in your face.

I don't know why we have to go all the way the frick up to OK every other year though. That would absolutely suck.

There honestly are two types. There are the Joey wearing full on rednecks you wound see at a nascar race and then there are a bunch of normal southern football fans.

So basically they are your average SEC fans.

Pretty much. There's nothing great about Gainesville but there's nothing bad either.

They are a much easier lot to deal with when they are not good, which has predominantly been the case since Meyer left. I'd wait to judge them until they get their shite together.

This is every fan base.

Like most fanbase the ones that have been around and seen the ups and downs are fine. Thought the OU fanbase at the Rose Bowl was a lot of fun

I agree. OU fans were great in Pasadena. I suspect folks from Austen may have a different experience LOL.

I actually know several OU fans and some Okie State fans. They are all good folks...they like their football but they are more akin to Kentucky football fans than Alabama, Auburn, Florida, UGA, LSU or UT fans...they follow their team, go to the games, but it is not a topic of conversation at a family reunion in June. Texas and Texas AM fans are similar...I have been to several games in Austen and a BUNCH of games in Lubbock and I have been to every original SEC stadium as well as USC and Clemson and there is nothing comparable in the Big 12. They follow football a lot like UGA fans used to...it was an event but the game was at best secondary to what had happened in Hahira that week...it is a social event more than a football game. Good atmosphere...nothing like a UGA /Auburn or UGA / UT game...and nowhere near a UGA/UF or UGA/Alabama game...

They have a few who are redneck trash that give them the stereotype. Just like UGA has a few that “bark at children” and give us a stereotype. I have several friends that are UF fans and alums and they are typical SEC fans. They got cocky during their Spurrier years but are calm now. I guess we are the cocky ones now. UF does seem to have a lot of sidewalk bandwagon fans that are obnoxious when winning and trash their team when losing. Since we play in Jax I have not been to a game in Gainesville. So maybe it’s better there.

You’re pretty accurate. OU’s weakened product and the Big 12’s gradual demise has a lot to do with that. In the 70s and 80s, it was different. Much like what you’re experiencing. But the dismal 90’s saw an end to all that, then we lost a huge rival, then the schedule got watered down, the on-field product never got back to 70s/80s levels, and our only remaining rival is a neutral-site game. OU home crowds used to be absolutely rabid. This is one of the reasons I’m so thankful we are moving to the SEC, it’s gonna force us to get better and the fans will be more invested.

Not us older fans. We prefer tradition.
