There has been a lot of discussion as to whether Texas and Oklahoma will have a tougher road in the SEC vs the Big XII.

I was curious what talent looked between the two conferences last season, based on the 247 Team Talent Composite's top 50 teams.

Removing Texas and Oklahoma from the picture, I have listed SEC teams in bold and Big XII teams in italics for a comparison:

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
4. Texas A&M
7. LSU
15. Florida
16. Tennessee
18. Auburn

19. TCU
22. South Carolina
23. Ole Miss
25. Missouri
29. Mississippi State
31. Kentucky
32. Arkansas

40. Texas Tech
46. Baylor
49. Houston
50. West Virginia

Note: The only SEC team outside of the top 50 was Vanderbilt as #58 which still placed them above several Big XII teams like Kansas, Iowa State, and Kansas State.

Doesn't one of the new teams struggle with this school?

And yet in our last 4 games vs SEC teams go 2-2 beating Georgia, Alabama in Tuscaloosa, lose to Bama in Austin by 1, and give the BEST TEAM EVAR the most competitive game they played all season long.

I can't wait till the season gets underway so this stupid beating of the horse goes away.

Kansas, Iowa State,

Both of the schools beat UTrans so regularly that they wanted to schedule them annually as their homecoming game

One issue with your method is you are using the whole roster to determine talent yet not the actual players who played the games.

Your result would be somewhat different if you looked at starters.

Meh, I'm just saying there is more talent in the SEC.

Judging from the results, it seems as if all of your preparation went toward beating the one SEC opponent, what happens when there are 8?

Even Jimbo was good for one massive upset per year, it was the rest of the schedule that did him in.

Didn’t #40 recently beat #23 and #29?
Didn’t #46 also beat #23 in their last matchup?
Maybe they’re just doing more with less. I get your point though. Everybody is stacked in the SEC and on paper should never lose OOC, but that’s why the games are played on the field.

I don’t think anyone would dispute that. But there is a difference in whole roster talent and who played the games.

You could have both teams with quality starters but team 2 has way less depth on the roster. So if I was comparing how teams look talent wise I’d want to look at who actually plays to get paint a fair picture.

Look everyone knows the SEC has more talent. However, when A&M and Missouri joined the conference they were both extremely successful in their first couple of years and the SEC was just as talented

I guess a .500 SEC record is an accomplishment and something to brag about.

Something no existing members have ever done. Take notes.

It boils down to the Southeast has WAY more talent than Texas and Southwest where the BIG 12 recruit the most.

This is what athlon came up with for '24 composite ranking. Just the backend. TCU was the highest of remaining 10 xii teams.
#31 tcu
#36 ok st
#39 texas tech
#42 vandy
Then rest of remaining xii teams.

You win MORE games in the SEC because of players #23 to #50 than #1 to #22. It's called QUALITY depth up and down the roster.
