For whatever retarded reasoning of our school administrators, hard liquor is completely legal. Beer they look the other way.

I'm sorry that I found it way too crowded and I love grilling at tailgates.

My God y'all are way too sensitive. I like Ole Miss. The 2012 media guide SIGNED by Hugh Freeze is one of my coffee table books. I can also criticize your ttailgatng and it shouldn't offend y'all so much.

I'm not disagreeing. I love grilling. But I still have a shitload of fun in the Grove with or without grilling.
My tailgate (which is mostly my brother's tailgate that I hang on to) does a good job with food. They cook all sorts of things the night before (chili, jambalaya, fried chicken, etc.) and just keep it warm using chafing dishes. Is it ideal? Not really, but it's a pretty good set up and with good people in a good location it's totally worth it.
The thing y'all are failing to miss is that the things y'all bitch about (no grills, have to put booze in cups) really aren't a big deal. They're things that can easily be worked around and overlooked if you're in the company of good, fun people.
I mean, what would you do, just sit there with your hands in your pockets and stare at your shoes, muttering "I just don't know what to do with myself right now because I don't have a grill," until someone asks you to leave for being a buzzkill? No, you'd pour a drink, nosh on whatever was in arm's reach, and enjoy yourself... I would hope.

I have attended multiple Grove tailgates this year.
I honestly don't understand the appeal.
Don't get me wrong--It's a good time--but no more so than any other school's festivities.
That's not a slam; I just scratch my head at the whole "reputation" of The Grove thing.
They're not tailgates at OM
Tailgates--by definition--are held around car/truck tailgates & involve much grilling.
That said ... carry on & do what you do, Rebs.
Unlike most of the SEC fans who are big on every school doing things the exact same way, we at Texas A&M appreciate originality.

I just don't know how this whole grove thing is gonna work. Nobody can drink? Nobody can eat food directly off of the grill? No way this kind of place can survive, much less be rated as the best by multiple media outlets...

I had a great time, I got really drunk, also the drunk during a game because of the constant flow or whiskey due to the free refillable cokes inside the stadium.

I'm not saying you can't have great food, but the food assortment from freshly cooked stuff from a grill is the far better alternative. There is lots of prep work that goes in to tailgating with grills as well. It isn't like the only thing you bring is a hunk of raw meat and lighter fluid.

I think what y'all are missing is that it detracts from the experience more than you would like to admit. I like the cup rule. I think it is "classier" and makes photos look better. Yet, girls like to make custom coozies for the games, and having a keg is cost efficient and way more fun. Cops breaking in to your coolers and pouring your alcohol out is absolutely fricking ridiculous.

I had a great time at the Grove. What I'm just trying to say is that all the things that make tailgating at the Grove great would still be there if you allowed kegs, weren't constantly hiding bottles and beer cans, cops didn't break in to your coolers and pour out alcohol, and you allowed open flame. It would only serve to enhance the experience, and whether you like to admit it or not, does for a lot of people detract from the experience.

That is the thing though its nothing special or unique that is what we are trying to get through to y'all. Its definitely not better than the tailgating done at any of the other bigger and better programs in the SEC. But other than the Grove what else can someone mention when they talk about Ole Miss football? Racism? Sucking? The Mannings? (And you didn't even have the best one of those)

I was using the definition of what an actual, physical, tailgate is--how the practice originated.
I'm not going to Google tailgating. We're all capable of doing so.
Again, keep on doing your thing. Your fans clearly love it.
Differences are what makes cfb great.

You realize that I have experienced more traditional tailgating, right? I've gone to several games at Fed Ex (frick the Redskins, btw), I've been a visiting fan to other SEC stadiums, I've been to a few bowl games. It's not like I'm wholly unfamiliar with the alternatives. I've done them, and I've had a lot of fun with them. I completely get the appeal. But so long as I'm with people I enjoy I don't feel the experience changes that much based on the food and drink.
I could eat cold Whataburger with my drinking buddies while swigging King Cobra in an alley and have a fricking blast doing it. For me, it's about the people I'm with. So, no, I don't agree that it "detracts from the experience" at all, because I don't have some preconceived notion about what the experience should or shouldn't be outside of the company that I intend to keep.

You'll not find a single Ole Miss fan (on this board, at least) that is okay with this. We too agree that it's ridiculous.
