I can remember when they were the Southerners and the Generals way back in the day. They weren't always the Golden Eagles. Probably shouldn't be now since they let Nugget starve to death. Back in the day, they were either Mississippi Southern or Southern. That's after they dropped the Teacher College and Mississippi Normal names.

The were Mississippi Southern until 1962. I grew up in McComb and some of the older people called them Mississippi Southern for a while. Most people just called them Southern.
Whatever you call them, someone needs to tell John Savage that they just beat the frick out of a team from the best conference in America.

I spent a year in a graduate program at Southern. It’s a good place. The campus is hideous, but the people are good.
