I don't think anyone has said you can't afford it, just that a raise is unwarranted.

Possibly, but when 5 of the top 10 paid coaches are from the SEC, I think it's more of teams in this conference are willing to take a chance of overpaying in order to remain competitive.

This year was a complete failure for Sumlin.

Before the season A&M fans couldn't fathom the thought of going anything less than 10-2.

I'm looking forward to the Aggies joining us at the bottom next year with their very expensive head coach.

Lolz. We lost to 3 of the top 5 teams by a margin of 17 points even with a shitty defense (LSU is still an anomaly). Everything that went right last year didn't this year. That's called college football you backwards jake leg.

If 8-4 is a complete failure, how would we classify Arky's season? Deliberate self mutilation?

If the no buy out afte 3 years worked both ways i'd agree, you're taking a chance but it's a calculated risk. Because really that's the time frame he should be given to win something of note. But if a&m fires him in 3 or 4 years, they have to pay him, right?

I swear, people (college kids?) just sit around making up this stuff.
A complete failure?
At least try to be credible.

Folks really had convinced themselves that Sumlin was gone, USC or t.u. would get him, A&M HC was a stepping stone job, etc.

Now, it's "oh y'all overpaid, he's not that good anyway"

I love this place

i'm kind of bored with that one.

Remember this is the board that isn't above debating if statues outside of a stadium are good or bad

I can only speak for Auburn but we've paid our last two coaches less than aTm has paid Sumlin and we have 1 possibly 2 BCSNC and 2 SECC as result. Why exactly would we be mad about aTm paying more and getting much, much less?

They are trying to discourage Texas from coming after him.
