Sheesh.

For all the Aggies pooh-poohing the idea: Kevin Damn Sumlin says we should play. You disagree. You need to rethink your priorities. The end.

I may be the exception, but, I miss the rivalry game. I want it back. And I want it on Thanksgiving weekend.

Maybe I'm just set in my ways but the LSU "rivalry" seems forced. They're arrogant assholes but nobody compares with t.u fans in that category.

I miss it too.
But I don't miss them calling the shots and stacking the deck for/against an entire conference.

I'll never get the "they're scared" schtick.
We were the ones who walked into the most ridiculous division in the most competitive conference in all of sports.
We were the ones who said we'd play em after we left the B12.
I'm learning that most of this stuff is just LSU blarney.

Yeah, Texas (Austin) has tended to look West. 3rd Coast, etc. A&M is in the "southern" part of Texas. Austin is not. And the hatred isn't violently anti-south as much as it is more wanting to be associated with a less conservative vibe.

I do think they would like to play LSU now and again.

Only thing to add is that Texas plays a whole lot games in Texas. Downside for them in playing A&M is the lost opportunity for some out of state exposure/recruiting.

So did Charlie. The decision is made above the paygrade of both.

It will happen when they want it to happen and not before. I think some old Texas boosters need to die first. My only hope is by then our Thanksgiving thing with LSU is solid enough the Texas game moves to September.

My opinion of it doesn't change anything or doesn't represent even a sliver of Ags, despite what the local horn wants to believe.

Why? Just because we don't want to play the sips? Let them rot, we have better things to focus on.

I mean I get it, I get it. The thing that we can't explain to outsiders is basically how our inferiority complex is the reason we aren't Texas Tech or Texas State. The burning desire has always made us demand a slice of the pie, which has led us to overperform given our start. I am a big the ends justify the means kind of guy, so I appreciate the game and our history with Texas.

I just think that by now we are "grown up," and maybe we can focus on new challenges beyond Texas. But then I look at the stadium that probably should have been 95k and I realize you are right, and you represent like 98% of Aggies. Doesn't mean my priorities are wrong, just that I have a different opinion.

Is this thread 18 pages of Aggie fans explaining why they don't care about Texas?

The days of letting old army run things has passed. Never again. Think first about A&M's best interest. Forget all other "priorities."

Which is ironic coming from them.

His job is to win football games, nothing more. I love the rivalry, but I don't think the game should come back quite yet til we cement our new SEC identity. I don't think that has happened yet.

Kevin Damn Sumlin is coming to your house and he is not happy.

Don't give me the "old army" shite. You want to dismiss my opinion because I'm old, I have no problem with that. The game needs to be played because it's football in Texas. That's it. All other considerations are moot. All this namby-pamby "it's not to our advantage" crap turns my stomach. Grow some damn balls. (I mean that in a nice way. Sort of. OK, maybe not.)

I think its more or less the same as your Big 12 identity as evidenced by 59-0.

Personally, I'd rather play tu on Thanksgiving and LSU on the opening day of the year.

Meh. That was an aberration and the world underestimating by boy Lane Kiffin. Without such a defensive failure we might not have Chavis either. That game turned out great for us.

While I agree with this, I still think the SEC has done so much for us, I want to cement our identity nationally before we play them again. I still think that matters. I mean we don't play them, but I've personally never felt the rivalry has ever been more bitter and contentious. It's the two largest schools in the state. It needs to be played, but it doesn't need to be played just yet.

I agree with how people are meaning it, but I don't think it is too our advantage yet. Seeing the Big 12 mire in mediocrity, how dominate our recruiting is... I just don't want to frick with the current dynamic. I think we can build towards something special when they aren't in our shadow. I want the only thing associated with Texas A&M for the time being to be the Southeastern Conference.

I'm thinking the older Texas booster's want to get the game back on track. The younger you are, the less the A&M/Texas rivalry seems to matter.

I also think there is a "time out" box that most people in the Big12 want to put A&M in. 10 years feels about right. Couple of generations of students and enough time to get over it.

I think it is dumb for the biggest programs in Texas to knock each other out of the playoffs at the end of every year. With an early game the loser can recover and maybe both can make it. A rematch in the playoffs would be epic.

Just my opinion though.
