We were more balanced in the past even with an elite running game.
Maybe more balanced in terms of equal pass yards/run yards, but we haven't been this dominate in one area of our offense in years, if ever. And we are still pretty efficient at the other.
With that said, we've only played 1 good defense and 0 great defenses. So, time will tell.

ou have like 4 competent running backs who would likely all start next year for LSU
They would start this year

no RB on the Alabama roster would start over a healthy Guice; however, a Guice and Harris backfield would be terrifying

"Starting" is such an arbitrary silly thing at positions like RB. Discounting Guice like that might be even sillier.
You'd think we'd know that considering the following average rush attempts per game
Jalen Hurts - 10.50
Damien Harris - 10.13
Bo Scarbrough - 10.13
Najee Harris - 6.13
Josh Jacobs - 4.00
Brian Robinson - 3.40

This is easier said than done...over the years everybody has tried but only a handful have succeeded. However, this is the formula to beat Bama - this year with Bama's passing attack being ranked 88th in the country - if you stop the run...you may win the game.
Not if they start Tua.

2017 Clemson loss - 221 Yards rushing
2015 Ole Miss loss - 215 yards rushing
2014 Ole Miss loss - 76 yards rushing
2015 Ohio State loss - 170 yards rushing
2013 Auburn loss - 218 yards rushing
2014 Oklahoma - 129 yards rushing
2012 Texas A&M loss - 122 yards rushing
Clemson- our drunk OC forgets that Damien Harris is a 1,000 yard rusher and gets 5 touches
Ole Miss in '15- 5 damn turnovers will frick your world up in a hurry!!
Ole Miss '14- shut it down
Ohio State- Kiffin experiments with seeing how many times can we throw it. Instead on milking the clock, we have 3-4 straight 3&outs and swing momentum to the Suckeyes.
'13 Auburn- one in a fricking million play! Personally, I would have preferred a Hail Mary and take my chances in OT.
'14 Oklahoma - shut it down
'12 A&M- early turnovers put them behind.
I would say that anytime a team is averaging at least 230+ yards a game and you hold them to half that, then you have shutdown their run game.

Put 11 men in the box and hope Hurts misses to open receivers.
If he misses too many, Bama has a guy on the bench I guarantee won't miss them!

Well, sure.
But let's look at the last few games where Bama actually lost:
Clemson allowed Bama to rush for 221 yards (and allowed 31 points).
Ole Miss (2015) allowed Bama to rush for 215 yards (and allowed 37 points).
Ohio State let Bama have 170 yards and 35 points. But they gained 281 rush yards of their own and 537 total.
Ole Miss (2014) let Bama have 168 yards on the ground but only 17 points. Bo Wallace beat Bama in the 2nd half with his arm and they outscored the Tide 20-3 in that half. As I recall, this is the game Bama fans were pissed at Kiffin for not running the ball more.
You have to go all the way back to 2015 to find the last time anyone held Bama to around 100 yards rushing and that was Tennessee in 2015 (being generous, it was 117 yards) in a hard fought 19-14 game. In 2014, there was a lot more success at stopping their run game. Arkansas held Bama to 66 yards and lost 14-13. That year, State held Bama to 124 and LSU held them to 106 and both teams stayed within a touchdown. But all of those teams in 2014 didn't have the offense to finish the job.
LSU last held Bama under 100 yards in the Game of the Century.
Certainly, slowing down Bama's run game will keep you in the game. But beating Bama (barring a turnover meltdown) usually requires one hell of an offensive performance. LSU's biggest handicap since 2011 when playing Bama hasn't been our defense. It's no accident that the teams that have had the most success at Bama were the ones that put up points and kept their foot on the gas. Granted, Bama makes it damn hard to score and play their best for games like LSU. We'll find out soon enough what Canada can do against Saban.

this is incorrect.
Bama gained 168 yards on 44 carries.

History tells us something different. Looks like most of Alabama's losses come in spite of their strong running game.
Otherwise, totally agree. The key to beating Bama is to keep them out of the red zone as best you can and do every damn creative thing you can to move the ball and score on them every chance you get.
The teams with innovative offenses have the best chance. Trench warfare has not been a very successful strategy.

Our run game is as good as it's been in the Saban era. And, when you are beating everyone like a pulp, you tend to keep running the ball, which tends to make your YPG Passing number drop pretty dramatically.
Finally, someone gets it. People on this board act like Hurts is garbage because he isn’t passing for 300 yards every week.
