Ehhhhh

I don't think you're looking deep enough as far as how good the run game is and the passing efficiency.

maybe so, but the numbers are real.

My biggest concern is if we need him to make a throw on 3rd and 15 to keep the drive alive for a go ahead score - I just don't see it happening.

What % of the time would you want him to make that throw?

Who in the country makes that throw and what % of the time would you say they make that throw?

Make Jalen Hurts beat you with his arm.

Alabama loves to run the ball. Jalen Hurts loves to tuck and run when nobody is open or he doesn’t feel comfortable. When Jalen Hurts does throw the ball, Calvin Ridley is the #1 target no matter what. And their offense thrives off of good field position thanks to their defense.

Double Calvin Ridley.
Load the box to stop the run.
QB contain Jalen Hurts at all times.
?
Profit.

Of course, it’s easier said than done. Much. And it takes a team to almost match Alabama’s athletes to pull something like that off.

You also have to hope the opposing offense can put stress on Alabama to force uncharacteristic turnovers.

Hurts ability to run the ball means there are fewer passes.

We did that last year. A TO and a questionable TD by hurts was what beat us.

.....Oh and that big 0 on the scoreboard next to LSU didn't help things.

To beat Alabama you need to do the following.

1. Catch them early in the season

or

2. Hope like hell they kick a FG short.

I mean he basically did this vs Clemson. On 3rd & 16 got us into an easy 4th & 1 to stay in the game.

Better to stay out of those situations in the first place and he's been very efficient this year at doing just that.

They are real as in we attempt the 9th least passes per game in the NCAA. Of course our pass yards are going to be low.

2013 Auburn loss - 218 yards rushing
2014 Oklahoma - 129 yards rushing
2012 Texas A&M loss - 122 yards rushing

History tells us something different. Looks like most of Alabama's losses come in spite of their strong running game.

Are you reading the stats you posted? In 4 of the 7 games you posted, Alabama's run game produced far below their season average. In three of those, their run game was not even respectable

The biggest thing that happened in those games is we got behind early and had to throw (Ole Miss, Texas A&M).

2015 Kiffin just brain farted against Ohio State.

We don't attempt more passes because they know our quarterback can't it done. That's fine though summer because so far we haven't needed a passing game because we impose our will and trot out one 5 star bruiser after another behind a good run blocking line. If Hurts could get it done you have to think we would be more balanced. They gameplan around Hurts strengths and mask his weakness which is a good thing.

This is easier said than done...over the years everybody has tried but only a handful have succeeded. However, this is the formula to beat Bama - this year with Bama's passing attack being ranked 88th in the country - if you stop the run...you may win the game.

Dude, that's Page 2 of Orgeron's binder.

Oh absolutely, I think generally, the only way to beat Alabama is to have a true duel threat QB and keep them off balance on defense. I don't think a team has beaten Alabama playing defense and field position since LSU won in 2011.

I recommend food poisoning. Thats going to be the Auburn strategy on both UGA and Bama.

Weve managed to handle it somewhat over the years a few times... problem is our coaching staff have failed to gameplan the other side of the ball... more than once..

Attack their strength boys!

I don't think that's true at this point. I think your next point is true.

Look, our identity is a run first football team. If someone stonewall's us running we'll struggle on offense. Same thing with Georgia. Same thing with Clemson. Same thing with Ohio State. This is kind of like saying "If you shut down Baker Mayfield Oklahoma can't score". Well, yea. Good luck with that.

There are some teams that are very good at both, Penn State comes to mind, but they aren't elite at either one. It's very difficult to be balanced and elite at both passing and running. There's a reason there aren't many teams out there, regardless of skill or scheme, that are.

We are efficient throwing the ball in the scheme that we run and one of if not the best at running the ball. If we are forced to play a game that is not our style we will struggle in all likelihood. It's going to take wild circumstances (our defense collapsing, 5 turnovers, etc) or a monumental defensive effort by the opponent to make us leave our scheme and plan. Would it be nice to have a great thrower too? Hell yea. But, IMHO, it's far from a fatal flaw.

And the only team who had been able to consistently compete that way has been LSU.

That MIGHT be 20% of it.

With the team THIS good at running the ball, what the shite has Saban ever done to make you think he'd toss the ball around the yard?

We were more balanced in the past even with an elite running game.

Passing yard per game. Rank and amount of yards.

2017 - 84th (201)
2016 - 82nd (213)
2015 - 64th (220)
2014 - 27th (272)
2013 - 41st (253)
2012 - 74th (219)
2011 - 69th (215)

Some of this can be explained by how good they are at running this year and the massive leads they've had. Also Hurts being a true sophomore.
