Vitello is the Les Miles of college baseball.
Les Miles would never coach a team with artifical grass and dirt for a playing surface. He would also never assault an official.

That's Paul Mainieri. Everyone knows that

All that big time talent Vagello had. He underachieved.

Wrong. Les Miles ate grass on TV... you think he is gonna play on carpet?

I actually was editing my post to put "maybe the coeds" in parenthesis, but wanted to see if someone else would do it.

He is Spurrier.
- Both took over programs with no history.
- Both won one title.
- Both left for the pros.
- Both had enough talent to win multiple Natties, but also won at least one at schools with no prior history, so nothing to complain about.

He’s a one hit wonder like Paul. All talent no substance.

It took Jay Johnson 10 years to win his first natty as a HC. Vitello did it in his 7th. Not really a fair comparison, since Vitello won at a faster clip and coached for only 8 years overall. Then again, nothing about this board is supposed to be rational or fair.

Put this on a Participation Trophy.
8 years at Tennessee = 1
5 years at LSU = 2.

Jay took Arizona to the CWS Finals in his first year on the job at a P5 program, following the year Arizona failed to make the NCAA Tournament
Then he won a title in his 2nd year at LSU, becoming the only college HC to do so.
Then he won another title in his 4th year, becoming the only coach to win 2 titles in 4 years.
You’re way too old to be trying this hard, give it up.

Nahh he's at his dream job. Said even if the NYY came calling he wasnt leaving LSU.
Guess he'll just have to settle for being the Nick Saban of college baseball. Good luck to the rest of the SEC while he's here.. conservatively estimating another 20-25Y.

The highest paid college baseball coach ever is not leaving the greatest college baseball program ever…ever.

So scared he decided he’d have better luck vs Ohtani and the juggernauts in LA

Vitello’s a chump. Classic underachiever. He’ll be fired in 3 years.
He'll come running back to college once he realizes the sheer amount of work it takes just to be mediocre in MLB.
His stint with the Giants will be short and uneventful.

And he came within one out of winning the national championship at Arizona. Which would have given him 3 in 5 years. As for how long it took him to win a national championship, look at those teams he was coaching in his early years. Far from Power 5 programs. Not familiar with TV's past: who was he coaching in his early years as a head coach?

Exactly.

If you have a chance to go pro, most sane people take it. Has Johnson ever had interest? Does anyone have interest in him may be the better question
You leave A&M to take the UT job that’s for sure

He’s already in a winning situation. Making $3 million a year, a program that sells itself with 8 national championships since 1990, and much less stress than MLB.
He’s the sane one for wanting to stay.
