He did? When?
When informed that Spurrier would come back to FL when done at SC.

Glad Spurrier's old @ss is out of Columbia. We're in the cellar right now because of his (lack of) recruiting.
Or it could just be that it's South Carolina, not known for recruiting. Hell, a top 25 class for yall is a victory.

Only thing I ever saw that was said was that he'd stay until Jerri finished her degree at South Carolina. She did, and then Spurrier went back to UF

Nobody ever expected him to stay here. Why would he?

Yeah we've never recruited at a high level or anything

Scrooster went on and on about how he was so connected to Columbia/Augusta National that he would stay forever. His kids, grandkids and such.
No big deal at the end of the day. Scrooster is very passionate when his meds are on schedule.

South Carolina has never been on the same level of recruiting as LSU or Alabama or Florida. Spurrier's best recruiting classes were still below average in comparison to the elite SEC teams.

SC fans forget what their program was like before Spurrier arrived. Bunch of ingrates. He left the program in bad shape? It has always been in bad shape, except for the few years when Spurrier was there. He didn't leave the program in shambles... he just left it how it was when he arrived. SC is historically an SEC bottom feeder. The fans need to recognize they had a once-in-a-lifetime run of mild success and need to accept that they are back to being the same old SC.

Gator fans that are mad at Urban Meyer are stupid. Guy won 2 national titles and 2 SEC titles in 5 years. He never even should have been there the 6th year, that's on Foley for guilting him into staying when his heart wasn't in it anymore.
I just can't be mad at a guy that brought that much success to Florida.
And I mean, yeah there were some roster issues when he left, but nothing and I mean NOTHING like the issues that Muschamp left us with. If UF had hired a decent coach in 2011, UF would have played for the national title in 2012, similar to Meyer in 2006 in year 2 after Zook.

Looks like the OBC and Pat Dye have some things in common.

And it is still amusing to me how bitter USC fans are about him. He brought their program to unprecedented heights for them in the modern era and they can't help but be mad at him. It's weird.
pull your head outta your arse lizard skin. don't intentionally use the word 'bitter' instead of 'relieved'. SOS would've been run out of Gainesville on a rail had he let Junior run the whole damn UF program like he did the final 3 seasons in Columbia.
why don't y'all give Jon Hoke an office next to Steve's on campus, too. he's over in Tampa doing jack shite for the Bucs.

His last five classes averaged 16th in the country I think I heard. I dunno - but what I do know is this ...
I've been giving this a lot of thought.
Spurrier quit because he looked up one day and realized it had gotten away from him.
His recruiting classes were overrated.
His staff was lazy and wasn't coachin'up.
He was going to hurt his winning percentage.
He was tired.
He has a couple players revolting on him, on social media.
He couldn't concentrate through an entire game.
He hated recruiting.
He genuinely wanted to give one of his guys a chance to finish the season.
He really wanted to drink beer beer on Saturday.

Yes, we know we've always been mediocre. We're all well aware.
Mediocre is how Holtz left it when he hung it up. Holtz left behind Blake Mitchell, Syvelle Newton, Cory Boyd, and Sidney Rice.
Steve left a walkon QB, an undersized running back, and very little value on the defensive side of the ball. The state of the team isn't up for debate. Holtz left more talent for Spurrier than Spurrier left for Muschamp. It's really not even close.
All that said, the overall state of the program, including facilities, donations, national stature, etc is better than what Spurrier inherited.
Most of us are very thankful for what he accomplished here. He left some wins on the table, and I think even he'd admit that. But overall, his run was successful.

You need to recognize what your mother is like ... in shambles, since you were born. Selling BJs for tokes on the crack pipes. Just how it was before you were born ... you just made it worse.
Do you even know your Daddy?
