OBC is probably my favorite CFB coach. I'll miss his digs at UGA and UT. He is a classic and I hope we get to hear him once in a while. I'd love to hear him provide color during a broadcast.

Unless he's sick, this isn't the way an "all-time great" goes out. Again, if he's sick then I totally understand and I wish him nothing but the best. But for a so called legend, this is pretty weak. Tuck tail and run while you suck and quit on those kids. No thanks.

One things for certain. Steven Orr Spurrier has been a winner almost every place he's been. The SEC will miss him.

should have finished the season. He quit on his players. Spurrier has always been a high strung, petulant loudmouth. He was classless at Florida and he quit in a classless manner. Fitting.

Can't all have coaches hitting players on the sidelines

Is there any possibility he was asked to step down and retire now?

I don't think so. He is their winningest coach ever and accomplished many things that had never been done before at South Carolina. This might have been his first losing season and he was coaching in his 11th year. When you look at their history, that is impressive. There wasn't a reason (record-wise) to force him out.

I dont know what kind of seemingly normal day to day things begin to affect you differently when you're 70 years old... I agree with OP if this is just "hey frick it and frick yall im out" - yeah that's pretty shitty, something tells me there is alot more to this story.. considering how iconic he has been, and just straight up entertaining, im going to give give him the benefit of the doubt, think the rest of you should too till we know more

bullshite, he has an obligation to every one of his players that he has preached to about not quiting when things get hard,.the community is going through a terrible natural dissaster and he is in the position to be a leader and to show that no matter what you have to finish the job. Just think the shite storm Saban would've gotten if he had bolted after the tornadoes. To me this reeks of bitter old man

It's strange timing either way. I think it would be really bizarre and low if he was somewhat forced to retire as the winningest coach in their history while the community is going through a natural disaster episode. It seems if you were going to force him out, you'd do it at the end of the season. Also, Spurrier is not the type you can probably bark out demands to. I think his decision basically came from him, but you never know.

I agree, for all he has accomplished, he could've finished the season at the very least. Unless there is information not yet given. Either the administration sold him down the river or he doesn't give a shite anymore. I am disappointed either way. I was a huge fan for most of his career. (When he wasn't kicking our arse).

Yeah. You're definitely qualified to judge him. Look at how much you've achieved.
