He’s getting a $21 million buyout. He will not seek serious employment until that buyout runs out like Butch Jones did.

Yes he would. If you watched any of that game yesterday you would notice the players never quit playing hard. VA Tech fans like that. I used to live up there and know a lot of them.

Hell, he might come on as an analyst for Drink if that’s the case

It was time for Auburn to move on, but Gus still has lots of positives even over the last 5-6 years. Auburn had a solid culture, they had good kids who didn't get in trouble, their teams NEVER quit and (until very recently) he recruited as a high level. And his floor was high.
Take that to a place where the competition across the board is lesser and I think he'd be fine.

Yea I see the perfect Gus fit as being the mid-level ACC - NC State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, etc. Enough resources, same general recruiting area, name and location to recruit pretty well but not ACC Title or bust expectation level.

All of this.
Gus is a solid but not spectacular coach who gets his guys to play hard and for the most part stay out of trouble.
If he chooses to continue coaching, someone that doesn't play Saban's Alabama, Jimbo's aTm, LSU, UGA and now Kiffin's OM every year is going to hire him and be pretty happy.
I understand why Auburn decided to move on, but it's a risky move for them. Auburn's a good place to coach but the same level of competition that cost Gus his job will be waiting on the next guy too. If he isn't up to it, they could go Tennessee in a really big hurry.
