Played Newman in the 3rd round of state (2A) my sophomore year when Eli Manning was QB. We were a very small public school and Newman had to come to us, it was crazy for us seeing them pull up in charter buses with 94 players on the sidelines to our 35 or so.
We ran the opening kickoff back...the crowd was going ballistic...then they threw a late flag and brought it back.
We lost 63-7.
After the game I ran to the concession stand and grabbed a styrofoam plate out of the effin trash can and ran over to get Archies autograph. "Well this is a first"

It's between Anthony Steen (starting guard at Bama the last few years) and Cameron Lawrence (All-SEC linebacker at State). I'll give the nod to Lawrence though. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet or talk to off the field but he was fricking mean on the field. Steen wasn't that great in high school. Just big and slow but he had a mean streak in him and if he ever got his hands on you, you were screwed.

Brian Brohm was absolutely filthy in HS. First round of the playoffs, the week after he was on the cover of SI as a junior in HS. It was a straight arse kicking.

My buddy was the quarterback for Union and played against Brohm in the playoffs. Said he was absolutely ridiculous

...
I was in the band ;p
The best player I can immediately recall being against was Micheal Proctor. The football in my area, at that exact time, wasn't known for producing big name talent so it was a big deal that one was going to play for one of the big schools. We did play Hoover every year, so I'm SURE there's some big names that popped up those years but for the life of me I couldn't even begin to name them. It was the early 90s, and there's not a lot of means to search those years out there sadly. I can see who we played, but that's about it.

1. Champ Bailey
In reality, I rode the pine and just watched him make all the plays. You could tell in HS this guy was gonna go to the NFL.
2. Adam Wainwright
Played for cross town rival Glynn Academy.
