you are ranked ahead of Clemson but you didn't win the conference and Clemson did. The right decision.

Conference tie-ins are the college football equivalent of an affirmative action/DEI hire.

march madness has auto bids for a large number of weak conferences.

saying ur team should be an at large even though you didn't finish in top 5 of your conference is affirmative action logic

If only SC had a win over a playoff team. Maybe a road win against a playoff team. Maybe a recent road win against a conference champ playoff team. Wait a minute...

Simply put, in the calculus of three 9-3 SEC teams essentially “tied” for one spot, by virtue of their 0-2 record vs Ole Miss and Bama, USC was the first one eliminated.

If it was ONLY a case of USC vs Bama, you could make an argument to over look the 2-point head to head road loss to the Tide.

But you couldn’t overcome 0-2 vs two other teams.

What is there not to get? You don't get the 12 best teams by having automatic bids for conference champions. Don't call it a playoff if a 4 or 5 loss team can get in because the conference they play in sucks.

Ole Miss has 3 losses and boat raced South Carolina. Just beat the absolute mess out of them. So... I guess Ole Miss's gripe is better than South Carolina's?

Clemson had a better win (SMU) and a better loss (UGA) than SC.

Clemson is only team in the country that had to face UGA's defense first game of season. But a team who didn't play UGA at all says they have a tougher schedule than Clemson lol

Isn’t SMU their only win vs a team with a winning record?

Sorry, but a mix of objective and subjective criteria is probably for the best.

I have no problem with ensuring the highest ranked G5 conference champ a bid at the cost to the 4th!!!! place SEC or Big 10 team.

If you had “12 best” it would be even worse.
