South Carolina fans - How long does Shane Beamer get?

This isn't a bash Beamer thread at all. Seems like a decent guy. But it's pretty obvious he's not going to get SC to a championship level. If he can consistently go 7-5 will that be enough? Dabo at Clemson proved that a team from South Carolina can make it to the top. I know they're in the ACC but still... Some of those Clemson teams would have beat the brakes off of most SEC teams. So what are the expectations at South Carolina?

Shane Beamer is the nicest guy in SEC football.

And we all know where nice guys finish.

Not a SC fan but his team played soft and scared on Saturday and then quit. If that continues, he is gone at the end of this year.

If they fire him they will just hire another shitty “up and coming” coach. They’re South Carolina

I agree that Spencer played soft.

Beamer is saying and doing the right things. He is trying the Dabo approach and hoping to get a longer leash to build something.
That needs to be done on the lines of scrimmage. He definitely gets a few more years. But without improvement in the trenches, I don't know if South Carolina will get him 5 years.

I have a better chance of winning a gold medal in female gymnastics that that happening.

Nobody's expecting us to compete with UGA in year 2, much less with LITERALLY 1/2 of their defensive starters out of the game due to injury. SC had 3 true freshmen in the secondary Saturday and it showed.

UGA's good, but pump the brakes.

I did not attribute SC's play to how good UGA is. I saw a lot of loafing, turnstile OL play, shying away from contact etc. That is a troubling sign, and a sign of poor coaching. If that continues, I would think there would be a move to replace him.

not in year 2 and with his name. most coaches in this league get 3 unless you are AU and the money people hated who the previous AD hired from the start. And we now know that AD is gone and the corch will follow soon

He will get at least 4 years maybe 5. But he may have to make some staff changes especially at OC if Satterfield continues to disappoint.

They are also the school that hired both Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier.

So you're saying we hire Saban out of retirement when they fire Beamer?

Yeah. When our 5th string 185 pound walkon tailback is violently stiff arming defenders to the turf, then there is an effort problem.
Doty looked good standing tall in the pocket though (much better than Spencer who was backpedaling the entire game).

He's got a minimum of 5 years, regardless of performance. He inherited a mess, and has made improvements in some areas, but he's also made some serious mistakes.

He's loyal to friends, which he hasn't earned, and his team looks softer than baby poo. He's done great work at recruiting the trenches, so he does see the problem with personnel.

But, this is a bad job at a bad program that no one really wants. So he'll get time if for no other reason than the school literally can't hire anyone else. Best hope is that giving him time can produce something similar to Stoops at UK, and that stability is rewarded.

Fanbase *has* to be patient. We don't have the luxury of swapping out coaches and expecting different results. But Beamer has to do his part and get a real up-and-coming OC this off-season.

You are correct, this is a very poorly coached team. No one expected us to beat Georgia. I do however, expect the game to not be decided in the first fricking quarter.

As far as how long he'll be here, I'd say a minimum of 4 years regardless of the product on the field due to our incompetent AD.

Doty has balls. Not sure Rattler does.

I'm also firmly of the opinion that Beamer has to build his roster almost exclusively from SC kids- a glaring difference from Doty/Rattler. The transfer/mercenary approach cannot work here.

One of my favorite sayings is "It's not the size of the dog in the fight it's the size of the fight in the dog", so I get where you're coming from.

So I won't totally disagree with you, but when the game is that far out of hand, I'm not faulting anyone on effort. Lance Armstrong once said about the Tour de France (and I'm paraphrasing) "It's not the energy you burn during the race that wins the Tour. It's the energy you save". Another favorite saying of mins is "It's better to retire than expire." Meaning somedays you just know your whipped and it's best to move on to the next game/match/race. What did UGA's players do in the 2012 game when it got lopsided? They rolled over. It's the mental aspect of sport. It happens sometimes.

I 100% get where you are coming from, but the State of SC doesn't have the demographics to allow that to happen. We have to reach out to the border areas of GA, NC and FLA to be successful.

Not a SC fan but I live in SC.

I don't think they're in any hurry with Beamer. SC fans aren't expecting a ridiculous turnaround for the most part. They did better than expected in Beamer's first year and seem (based on local sports radio) to be putting off the GA loss as "UGA is really good".

I think their real expectation right now is to make a bowl and improve on recruiting (Beamer had a poor transition class but got some good transfers, and his class last year wasn't quite good enough for SC fans. They're expecting a top 15 type class this year).

As long as Beamer doesn't take steps back, I think SC fans will be content for a couple year of being a bottom line bowl team before there's much pressure on him to improve. Their fans seem to see the task he has in front of him
