I'd put the food in Charleston up against anywhere in Texas. Per capita, it has some of the best dining in the US

IMO The best BBQ place in sc is a Texas BBQ place in Charleston. Kind of funny.

There ain't no BBQ, steak or Mexican food fit to eat in Texas. All 3 are like most things in Texas....like the parents of an ugly baby they are disproportionately proud and decent folks don't have the heart to tell them that the kid is butt ugly. BBQ is pork....it ain't brisket or sausage. Steaks are not meant to resemble charcoal brackets and Mexican food ain't supposed to taste like a Swanson TV dinner. They can do chicken fried steak though....I defy anyone to find the best BBQ in Texas and compare it to a roach coach construction site BBQ and claim the Texas version is better. And then, to top it off, they mix ketchup and sugar together and call it BBQ sauce....shite is horrible. Probably one reason why Texans are so damned angry about everything

Not really. I have had BBQ in most of the states mentioned. I have had really good and not so good in pretty much everyone of them. I think what most people are looking for in judging good v. bad is what they grew up on. If you offered me a good beef rib or a rack of good pork ribs I would take the beef. But, I have had and can do pretty good ones (both). Some people like dry ribs and some wet. When I do multiple racks low and slow, I do both. I just take the dry ones off early (wrap in foil) and sauce the wet one and let the temp rise a good bit to get the wet ones to the degree of pretty. I had kids that lived in SC and NC and I had good BBQ in both but prefer what I am used to here (no yellow bbq sauce and less of the vinegar in NC).
