They are the co-flagship of the State of Arkansas along with Arkansas State. Per Rant rules, no co-flagship banner is permitted unless you want to be ridiculed like Ole Miss.

We share the flagship with no one.

It's a joke. It refers to Arkansas as the flagship program of the SEC. Woopig20 was the first to say it and it took off from there.

We don't joke about being the flagship, Benny is sadly mistaken

So you guys are coming to terms with the fact we are smarter than you?
Posted on 12/13/10 at 9:08 am to Aletheia
I thought the flagship of Arkansas was Wal Marks?

you may be the oldest school in arkansas (congrats!) but you're not the flagship university in the SEC. That would be Georgia (1785).

i guess everybody needs a schtick

It looks to me like some little piggies have just learned a new word. Apparently no one has told them that the use of 'flagship' in a university system has been around since about the 1950s.

I have no idea. I think they all got together and smoked all the available crack in Little Rock last night.

WTF arkansas? Flagship isn't a new thing, UGA is the flagship University of the state of Georgia. It's just a term that means the original or first in that university system.
So.....much.......fail....
Seriously, Arkansas posters are not nearly as dumb as everyone thinks. You think were the most easily troll-able fanbase but threads like this just show how much Arkansas trolls everyone else. Do we show up in threads like monkeys with crap in our hands whenever someone mentions us? Yeah, but that's us, that's just what we do.

Flagship has nothing to do with being the "oldest"

it means the most important or leading member of a group.

Then what is it?

it means a lot more than that. when funding time comes around and the budget is getting hammered, being the flagship university means you get first shot at needed money. it is everything to the university and what separates it from other universities in the state. it seems as if many, if not most, haven't a clue as to the funding priorities of state entities work.

Also according to wikipedia:
quote:
The phrase flagship campus or flagship university is often used with reference to state university systems in the United States, which often comprise numerous campuses in widely-separated locations. In this context, flagship means the original campus from which the system grew

I chose to take my definition from the flagship in language section, you can feel free to misunderstand what we mean by it all you want though.

Just because you are the oldest school, doesn't mean you're the "flagship of the SEC".
Several schools all joined together to form the SEC at the same time.
Alabama was the first "SEC Champion", fwiw.
