I’ve begged my wife for years to consider Alpine Texas even offered to get a plane so that it could be a shorter trip to visit grandkids
She’s just not down with it

What’s funny Is he trolled the crap out of Texas Tech at the same time
Their coaches were probably shitting bricks thinking they had been duped

Yes, I really like Alpine, and Big Bend National Park is one of my favorite places!
Marfa had gotten kind of yuppie with Austinites and some odd modern art museums the last time I was there a number of years ago…
Good luck convincing your wife!

Oh Grandpa, when was the last time you were in Lubbock? 1957?
Its fun watching Tech creep up on UT and AnM. The lay of the land will look much different in TX in 5 years.
TT draws the right kind of student, not the weirdo nerds that go to UT or the Army groupie losers that go to AnM.

Isn't that what Harvey Williams did to A&M before committing to LSU?
Yes, 100%.
People laughed at it then also, just like they are doing now.

Alpine is a beautiful area for sure.
Sul Ross State is also there.

I drive through Lubbock, quite frequently, would not want to live there, it’s been surpassed by Amarillo

And you're right, they don't draw the same students. Thank God. The kids that go to Tech are notorious for not getting into either of Texas/Texas A&M/OU and being ratchet (borderline feral) in person
Don't think I could be less intimidated by Texas Tech

Yeah all that beautiful oil money that used to go east is staying home now. Lets revisit in a few years.

And yea, I'd say getting to watch each of the past two longhorn seasons be more successful than any aggie football season in the past 85 years makes it rather easy to completely ignore any point you're desperately trying to make.
Especially when that point is rooted in you meatriding another school for a recruiting victory over Texas.
Hell, your favorite team is UTSA because they were able to beat Texas in baseball after your preseason unanimous No. 1 team couldn't even make it to the postseason

Agreed. Lubbock is pretty dumpy. Amarillo is a more charming town.
I grew up in Midland and visited many towns in NW Texas. If Tech wasn’t there Lubbock would be the same as Muleshoe.
In the late 90s you could still take a girl up to Lamesa for a drive-in movie.

As far as the six-digit populations go, Amarillo has a smaller and tighter knit feel than Lubbock. It seems to be encompassed more by ranching than drilling. But it also has an older and less modern look - depending on how that strikes you.
I would choose Amarillo as well, but I live in a town of 2,000, so pretty well know where I'm coming from.

So arrogant, yet so insecure…everything must be about them always.
My “favorite school” is UTSA because my gf’s son just got accepted and is going there. Completely forgot they beat your arse. I guess you haven’t forgotten though, huh?
Please use your 4th/5th post to keep telling us how unimportant this is to you.
We’re almost convinced!

it was stupid
it wasn't funny
we've raised a generation of narcissists
we all knew to act respectful at that age, now the new generation is oblivious
and ETA: I love Old Sarge, I"m not slamming Old Sarge

I was at a hotel back in the late 90's I guess, and met a couple who were high school teachers doing vacation on summer break
then I saw them in the lobby several times, all week, and all they were doing was watching Jerry Springer on the lobby TV
that's who's been teaching decades of kids
