exactly. It doesn't matter what you call it. Auburn pounds the ball.

Can Auburn beat Bama by throwing the ball?
You do realize Auburn is a spread power running team right?
Like UF was with Tebow?

Most spread QBs don't miss so many throws. If Manziel played instead of Mariota they Ducks win by 70.

I assume this means he wasn't bringing his defense along with him?

AU can't line up and just do the damn thing. So it isn't power running. AU uses trickery. Not power. No pounding. Smoke and mirrors.

Gus Malzahn: We're a run, play-action team. A lot of spread teams are pass first, run second. But we're a run, play-action team.

I wonder if any DC has tried to use that strategy on any team, including pro-style or any other offense ?
Auburn's problem is they have a hard time throwing the ball and use the spread to create mismatches and holes in the line. Stanford used a brute force to push back the DL to earn yards. That is why against weaker teams spread offenses rack up more yards because it creates more holes to run through but when you get a good defensive team then your option is to throw the ball and is a weakness for AU.

so when will you get to watch your first AU game, anyway?

No, we don't.

Auburn has a hard time throwing the ball? Are you basing that on the 9 passes they attempted against Arkansas?

I don't really care if we are labeled spread or not, but it is a misnomer and lazy to do so, especially if the point being made necessitates a conclusion that AU is a "spread" team.

Oregon doesn't pass first and they are a spread.

Wut.
Neither Bama nor Auburn came remotely close to containing JFF. He had two of his better games of his illustrious career against them.
