I was pleased and amazed that there were zero targeting calls in the game. I think every other bowl game I watched had at least one called. Understand the need to protect players but more often the helmet contact is not intentional. Overall the refs called a good game and let the players play the game.

“Targeting” means that a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact to to the head or neck area of a defenseless player

If they would just enforce this and consider context zero as the rule intends football fans would have zero problem with it. The refs are ejecting players for shite that isnt in the rulebook.

Honestly, I believe that’s just a football move. They were both low, the defenders feet were planted, he wasn’t lunging.
I know others have been ejected for it, but it’s hard for that defender to counter react to the QB going low.

I side with the defender and the no call.

The defense is in a position to lose. Why can Lawrence do it?

For real, I dont give a frick about the hit. It's the ABSOLUTE LACK OF CONSISTENCY... imo you should not be penalized for a helmet to helmet hit when the person you are tackling low falls into your helmet OR lowers their helmet to try and tank the hit/tackle...

Honestly, if it's about safety, they need to have a penalty for "attempting to draw a targeting." Otherwise, we're just going to keep having players on offense making insanely dangerous plays in an attempt to get cheap yards. This penalty needs to also include an ejection.

Didn’t call it, didn’t happen.
Simple.
