I believe Lane is an offense minded genius.

I also believe he can’t open the playbook because the offensive line is trash. The wide receivers drop as much as they catch. And the QB is equally as bad as the offensive line.

Wake Forest stood their ground against Miami. Matter of fact, I’d go as far as saying the deacons even exposed Miami a bit. But that Mensah / Tomey combo is dangerous.

I definitely see your thought process. However, if you pressure Leavitt too aggressively and consistently force him out of the pocket, I think you’re playing right into one of his strengths. He can beat you with his legs, and once you start overcommitting to him, the RPO game can eat you alive.

If Ole Miss finds a way to contain him, keep him in the pocket, take away the easy RPO stuff and force him to make tight-window throws against coverage. If Ole Miss can do that and avoid the busted coverages we’ve seen, I could absolutely see Leavitt throwing 2–3 picks and Ole Miss winning a tight one by 3–6 points.

Like I said, the athletes are there on both sides of the ball. This game will be decided by scheme and mistakes. Whoever wins that battle will IMO win this game. And I think it could go either way.

When all this is said and done Saturday night, both LSU and Ole Miss will learn a lot about their programs and what the rest of the season may look like. This will be the ultimate test for both programs.

No sir rebeltree, plenty of folks are heading that way, myself included. I don’t think it’ll be any different than going to any other opposing teams venue. Most of the adults are cool as shite and the student section is full of assholes.

I’ve been to the Grove three different times for tailgating and football games, and I’ll give Ole Miss credit, the place is beautiful.

But after three visits, I’m convinced there’s something in the Oxford water supply suppressing testosterone.

Every time I go back, it seems like the Grove has a little more charcuterie, a little more linen, and a little less evidence that anyone there has ever changed a tire.

Ole Miss is going to get pressure, especially with the matchup they have up front. But I think you’re leaving out a pretty big part of the equation, Leavitt can move.

Getting pressure on him and actually containing him are two different things. If those guys start pinning their ears back and getting upfield all night, he’s more than capable of stepping through a gap and taking off. That can turn what looks like a busted play into 15–20 yards pretty damn quick.

And Kiffin knows the pressure is coming. I seriously doubt the plan is to have Leavitt stand back there like a statue and let Ole Miss tee off on him. I’d expect them to move the pocket, use some RPOs, quick throws, QB runs and let his legs slow that pass rush down.

Now, I do agree that if Ole Miss can get pressure while keeping him contained and force him to consistently beat them from the pocket, that favors Ole Miss. I’ve been quite the critic on our QB play. He’ll take chances and he’ll put some balls up for grabs.

But just saying “he’ll have pressure in his face all night”, I think Kiffin will welcome that. Swing your linebackers and leave the safeties on an island and Kiffin will be glad to counter. With a mobile QB, sometimes getting pressure without staying disciplined is exactly what gets you burned.

This game will be fun.
