Yeah we (somewhat) tried that before.

I’ve felt this way for years....
Alabama’s success is far more attributable to Bryant and Saban than to anything inherently special about the UofA. The argument being “but they did hire Saban and Bryant”, which is valid indeed.
Alabama is a poor state, of less than 6 million people, with two top 15 historical football programs. Auburn and AL are overachievers.
They should both be applauded.
Florida, has huge comparative advantages but were underschieving prior to 1990 and they rectified it with 1 great coach...then another.
I’d say UGA has managed to be a top 10/12 program historically without ever having a great coach. Butts, Dooley, and Richt were good coaches. Woodruff was a great coach in the 20’s but he didn’t stay long enough to make an impact. Is Kirby a great coach? We’ll see. Georgia has immense advantages from a state population over 10 Million, overwhelmingly loyal to UGA. Georgia Tech isn’t interested in winning football. The economic demographics and high school athletes are hugely favorable.. i don’t think they’ve had a recruiting class in 40 years that wasn’t a top 10 class. And yet they are the single most underachieving program historically....apart from Texas.
I can’t even pretend to understand why the Longhorns ever win less than 9 games.
Which leaves me to guess that it’s all about administrative commitment.

Alabama was pretty darn good outside of Saban and Bryant. But those 2 were on another planet.
I started in the AP poll era and disregarded ties for Alabama.
1936-1957 record of 140-70 (2-1 W/L)
1958-1982 record of 193-32 (6-1 W/L)
1983-1989 record of 58-23 (2.5-1 W/L)
1999-1996 record of 70-23 (3-1 W/L)
1997-2006 record of 66-55 (1.2-1 W/L)
2007-2017 record of 130-20 (6.5-1 W/L)
Non Saban, Bryant, Stallings 265-148
or 1.8-1
Non Saban and Bryant 335-171 or 2-1
2-1 is good
Dye 2.5-1
Paterno 3-1
Miles 3.3-1
Richt 2.8-1
Dooley 2.6-1
Meyer 4.3-1
Bowden 3.2-1
Spurrier 4.5-1
B. Wilkerson 5-1
Neyland after 1936 was 4-1
Fulmer 3-1
Shrug Jordan 2.1-1
Jim Donnan was 40-19 or 2-1
My point being is that Alabama outside of Saban and Bryant is an on par SEC team. What makes them Alabama is the 327-52-5 record and MNC every 3.5 years under Saban and Bryant. It’s not a slight, Alabama is to be commended for recognizing the ability in these two and getting them hired.

I will agree with you but also remind you that ga fans talked a lot of hateful shite about him while he was at Bama, just saying.

Sorry, I've been to AUs and Bama's stadiums - many times. I'm no Auburn fan - far from it- but their stadium is beautiful. Beats Alabamas by a mile.

You do understand that UGA is in Athens, Ga not Athens, Alabama or Athens, Tennessee don't you. It's obvious you haven't seen UGA in a very long time. Georgia has $$ and they have been spending it for the last decade. The results are amazing.
Alabama a destination school? Kids who can't get into UGA go to back up schools like Bama and AU and the very popular Tenn. Thanks to the Hope scholarship UGA is a prime destination school where only the top applicants are accepted. The rest end up in Knoxville, Columbia or Tuscaloosa.
