Ole Miss is likely in with USC being a long shot.
Rightly or wrongly, Ole
Miss and SC have absolutely no chance The committee chairman told you that. Miami and Alabama will stay ahead of both, which gives them no chance.

So if Clemson wins, doesn't that elevate SC?
The committee chairman point blank said there will be no change to the order of Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss or SC, since none of them play. I thought it was odd he said that, but he did.

He didn’t mean their rankings.. he was saying the order of those 4. Plus win by Clemson they can still be ranked behind those 4, but in the bracket.

Right, so maybe Miami has a slight chance. Ole Miss and SC don’t. No set of results gets them in.

Only possible way Bama gets left out is if Clemson wins by like Fg over SMU
This is what all the sky screamers should be rooting for. A close OT type game with Clemson winning, setting up the possibility for SMU to get in

No way they put SMU over us if they lose. They would have beaten no ranked teams and lost to the only good teams they played all year. Bama's in.

It is ridiculous that they are even in the picture.

Which is exactly why the playoffs need direct pathes to the spots like the NFL.
I agree with you, but It can’t happen yet. The conferences aren’t nearly equal. I still expect there will soon be two mega conferences and all the others will be by the wayside.
And espn/push for larger playoffs/nil/portal will finally castrate the golden cow of college football.

The only scenario that keeps them out is probably a narrow Clemson win. An SMU victory of any sort or a resounding Clemson win, and Bama is in.

If Clemson beats SMU what's stopping the committee from dropping SMU out of the top 12, but not moving Clemson into the top 12?
Boise, Texas/UGA, ASU/ISU, Oregon would be the top 4 seeds, leaving the ACC with just Miami and no auto qualifier.
This would open up a spot for a 2nd 3-loss SEC team.
I feel like I'm overlooking something here since I haven't read this scenario anywhere else. While unlikely, is it possible?
edit: NM I see it... two auto bids are currently outside the top 12... disregard.

I think the top 5 conference champions are in regardless of ranking. The ACC champ will be one of those.
