Bama wasn’t on probation when Stallings retired.

But the Committee on Infractions wasn’t satisfied with the report and ordered hearings on the matter. After conducting the hearings, the committee decided that Ingram, Stallings, faculty representative Dr. Thomas Jones and then-compliance director Gary White had failed to investigate Langham’s situation properly.

quote:

Langham played in 11 regular-season games in 1993 before he was ruled ineligible for the Southeastern Conference championship game, which Alabama lost to Florida, and the Gator Bowl, in which the Crimson Tide defeated North Carolina. Under NCAA rules, he should have been ineligible for the entire season. Alabama’s record thus fell from 9-3-1 to 1-12.

quote:

Asked later if this would affect his coaching timetable, Stallings said: “It sure will. I’ll have to stay that much longer to win those [eight] games back.”

He retired in 96

After winning the west and playing in a bowl game

Probation was no factor in Stallings decision to retire

Certainly would imagine so, don't understand the downvotes for the previous post though. Saban isn't exactly replaceable.

They lost some scholarships and forfeited some games in 93..

But it’s funny they played in the SEC Championship game in 94 and 96..

It’s funny that an Auburn fan would bring up probation..

Your HR hire Pat Dye left Auburn on probation.. they couldn’t even play on TV the year after he left

But y’all named your field after him

back at ya.

you do know we have the exact same number of probations in football, right?

You do know since bear, bama has been put on probation more times than anybody in football, right?

ETA and only one of us has ever "been staring down the barrel of a loaded gun"

Pretty hilarious that a thread laughing at Dabo turned into an Auburn fan melting his face off.

Yes, he is! Look around there are too many good HCs around and they will never win a championship because they are at a school that can't get top recruits on a regular basis. Alabama is one of those schools that can get top recruits on a regular basis.

The truth of the matter...........it's going to be hard as hell for bama to find a replacement for saban.

And the kicker is: you want to be the coach who succeeds Saban's successor. Not the coach who succeeds Saban. That poor bastard is already a dead man walking.

You aren't wrong but I have a feeling Alabama will frick around and hire a Jim Mcelwain-type or promote from within. That spells disaster and folks will point out "but muh Kirby", yet Kirby was a diamond in the rough.

The next hire will be a disappointment yet Alabama fans will act like he's a god. Remember, half the fan base wanted Shula retained in 2006. Most of the fanbase literally acted like he was Bear 2.0 after three straight losing seasons....

HC's that can recruit and hire a staff like saban are few and far between. If it was easy, they would be everywhere. The ones who can are already at upper echelon schools. Why leave that for somewhere else?

you had 7 coaches in 25 years between bear and saban. Your fanbase has high expectations and most of the time unrealistic.

AU has had four HCs and two interim HCs in the las 15 years. What was that you were saying about unrealistically high expectations?

we are Auburn. You are bama. Two very different situations.

ETA we have never been on a level playing field. bama is the state school. Even with that built in disadvantage, Auburn is 13th all-time in wins. That is damn impressive. If you look at the list, you will see one other school in the top 13 that is not the state school.

It’s not 1997 anymore. I’m sure there are coaches that will shy away from replacing Saban but there will also be a long list who want the resources the job offers.

The only accurate thing you’ve said.. we are definitely different!

Y’all celebrate a coach that went 6-6 against your biggest rival.

Congratulations on your mediocrity

Again, and you run off a HC that wins the conference but can't beat Auburn.

And hired a Coach that beat them his first year and won the National Championship in year 3.

I’d say it was a good decision
