Nah dude, it will have real consequences for the university longterm:

Moody's Investors Service has lowered LSU's credit outlook, a trend that, if it continues, could cost the university more money for construction projects.

What is scary for LSU is the only way out of it is:

Moody's said it could increase LSU's credit rating again if the Legislature gave the school more autonomy over its tuition

Hack? Communist? Do you not know how credit ratings work?

The only reason that is a "could" is because of the VERY unlikely event that LSU doesn't borrow any money during this period when the credit rating is downgraded.

But make no mistake- if LSU wants to build right now those loans WILL cost more than they would have costed the same time last year. Guaranteed.

The only debatable thing really is if it will get worse before it gets better.

LSU President appears to be a drama queen ~ LA Governor is a selfish politician - LA Constitution is royally fricked up - LA journalists are commies.

I honestly hate to see the ongoing bad PR for LSU - somebody on the LSU board needs to put a sock in President Alexander's mouth. Sucks for the faculty and students.

Frick, corn dog sales are soaring. Could have doubled my money if I had foreseen this.

But in the Rant world what happened to Tenn is more relevant

I don't give a crap what world it's in. In our case, people cherry picked a couple of bad line items (like former coaches' salaries and cash accounts) and declared that we were going bankrupt. Now in your case, LSU might really be declaring bankruptcy, but somehow our problems are still more relevant in Rant world? Yeah, right.

Spot on on all counts.

The LSU BOS needs to play some hardball with the politicians. LSU is being sacrificed to keep the other 942 4 year institutions in La open. The citizens of La who support the other small schools are ok with this because a lot of them view LSU as part of the problem (always looking out for itself, taking up more than its fair share of state funding, getting preferential treatment from the State Capitol, etc.).

What they don't realize is that the economic impact LSU has on La is greater than all of the other universities...combined. So yeah, go ahead and strip LSU of its funding to protect McNeese, Nichols, SUNO, and Southern... Hard decisions have to be made, and I'm sorry to all those other smaller universities, but LSU ( and ULL, and La Tech probably) should be spared the brunt of these cuts and allowed to remain fully funded (academically).

I also think all the athletic programs should lose state funding, too before those three schools lose a dime academically.

Then why don't you drive to Nebraska or Iowa in your '73 Vega and buy some? (you know, where the corn is?)
Better yet, why don't you wait until the Texas State Fair - the corndog capital of the universe, and get some near your doublewide in Enchilada Heights ??

When is the deadline for LA to have the state budget balanced?

Pres Alexander says he's not putting together paper work to declare financial exigency to scare people, but that looks like exactly what he's trying to do. Will he really take it that far if funding gets cut yet another year?

Nah. I think he wants to avoid tuition hikes, which I understand is not up soley to LSU anyway.
Hopefully some compromise can be made...

So Alexander is just blowing hot air to the journalists in an effort to probe LA government into appropriating funds from a pot that's ummmm.... empty?

That is a question I would like to know the answer to as well.

Again, budget woes are not exclusive to Louisiana.
