Florida fan base will not give CDM enough time to be successful. I have already outlined what is going to happen there.
He is a great coach, his recruiting is actually underrated IMO, his offense is very complicated. It will take him 3-5 years to get the Gators to where they expected to be yesterday.

Thus they will not have the patience to wait for the success to actually happen and will fire him prematurely.

If you look back at his tenure at State, thanks to Coach Croom, he walked into a gold mine in 2009 sans a QB. In 2009 we were 5-7 but it was his first year and we had some struggles. Record could have been much better.
2010-Had a great defense, bunch of guys off that team went on to play on Sundays (Record 9-4) killed Michigan in the Gator Bowl 52-14, tagged teamed with Bama to obliterate the State of Michigan on the same day as they beat Michigan St 49-7.

2011-2013 were up and down years as we won 7-8-7 games respectively. End of 2013 set the stage for 2014 and beyond however.

That was five years in, Gator Nation would have run CDM off by then. This will repeat itself over the 3-4 years at UF before they get rid of him.

He might be competitive with Kirby during that time but in the end it will not matter.

UGA is losing a TON of experience and talent at the end of this year.

8 Sr's/RS Jr's on Offense (including Chubb and Michel) and 8 on defense.

If you want to know why UGA rocked it this year, there's your answer.

Then Florida should have no problem winning the east next year, right?
You seem to be forgetting what we return, but that's ok. The only thing that matters is what we lose. I mean, look at Alabama the last 7-8 years. Their losses of killed them. They will be mediocre any time now.

Let me see:
Who will be back?

Godwin and Ridley at WR
Baker,Kindley/Cleveland at Guards
Gaillard at C
Thomas at Tackle
Fromm at QB
Swift, Holyfield/Herrien/#1 RB in country at RB

On defense:
Thompson at DT (Maybe...not sure)Tyler Calrk if Thompson doesn't come back
Rochester NT
Ledbetter/Marshall DE
Walker/Grant LB
Reed/Baker/LeCount DB

All either started or got significant playing time this year.

I think we will be ok.

BTW. Isaiah Wilson and Netori Johnson got a RS this year, and will be ready next year along the OLine.

End of day. These Miss state fans forget how much their school sucks. They think its the coaches.. No.. Its the program. Billy G signed five star after five star at UF. Not his fault miss state is a terribly average program you can't pull elite talent to cow country.

Don’t sit there with a straight face and act like Gainesville is some nice place to be, because it’s not. It’s just another north Florida shite hole.

he implements his offense very quickly

This is what gator fan will be most excited about. Mullen can take a scrub roster and start gaining yardage and getting points. He really can make chicken salad on the offensive side of the ball, and quickly

In his defense and this is clear speculation, as I haven't cared to look, but I imagine a great deal of his "laziness" recruiting simply grew over time. Apathy has to set in when you expend a lot of time and effort trying to recruit top talent that courts you until the end only to go to a bigger school with better facilities and a chance to compete.

I could easily see him resigning his self to 1-2 decent targets with most of his energy finding (or attempting to find) diamonds in the rough, and the last bit being the kids that were going to State anyway.

Some may view it as settling, lack of concern or lazy, but it may more simply have been pragmatic given the reality of his situation.

At UF, he has better opportunity to land the upper level talent if he dedicates more time to it, so it may change his approach. Plus, the talent in Florida at the "diamond in the rough" and "want to go to UF regardless" levels will be any greater supply than regionally in the MS, Alabama and north LA areas Mullen got most of his recruits (or at least seem)

Tebow has said that Mullen was the reason he almost DIDN'T go to Florida. Dan's personality just doesn't attract recruits. Most of them love him after a few years, but he's prickly. The only recruit I ever remember being drawn to and enamored with Mullen was Barry Brunetti. Brunetti said his mom kept a picture of Mullen in her kitchen. Brunetti signed with West Virginia and then transferred to Ole Miss

Same talent from 2016. Must have been coached up and had talented underclassmen also step up.

Defensive much? Geeze. I was just saying that Kirby was fortunate to have a very experienced team this year. Good for them.

Look UGA (and Uf) will always be stacked because of geography. The only point I was making is that there is a lot of experience and talent walking out the door at UGA after this season. I have no doubt that a decent amount of talent walk in this spring and next fall, but experience isn't replaced as easily.

I fully expect UGA to repeat as east champions next year. That's where the Smart money is (no pun intended). But I also expect them to take at least a small step back too.

I've never heard that or seen it before, interesting.

I do remember his relationship with Alabama and Shula being a factor that made UF a very tough decision for him.

I’ll go on record to say Mullen is a great hire, the one guy I didn’t want you to hire.
