So do you Tennessee fans resent and/or blame Phil Fulmer for this state of things?

I don't. He had very little time to pick a coach. Also, by the time he became AD our coaching search had already became a disaster.

You didn’t have a line outside the door with people wanting the job....

Phil playing the long game. He has visions of UT renting a forklift to tote him off the field on victory after his glorious return to coaching versus Vandy

They already had Mike leach agreed to take the job but fat arse cock blocked him. Leach is currently 2-0 at Wazzou mind you, that's better than 0-2 don't you think?

Thanks for being civil and actually discussing it.

Nobody knows but I think Mike Leach might have been successful, at least competitive, and yes, I realize that UT fans want to compete for titles. Best I understand it, Leach had agreed to a deal with the AD that was fired, and for whatever reason Fulmer didn't go with Leach.

Pruitt may not have been ready, but Kirby looked good early at UGA, so I guess it wasn't a stretch to think Pruitt might also do well, and he still may.

Phil challenged Alabama. He won the battle, but clearly lost the war. UT will never be back.

Tennessee isn’t going to get better overnight. That place was a dumpster fire and those kids with 5* hearts need to work their way out. Kirby inherited a program that was still in good shape. It’s going to take a few coaches years to rebuild what Phil ruined way back when.

???

He had Mike Leach signed, sealed and delivered to him by his predecessor and was too stubborn to move forward because he wanted to take over and do it his way. You guys could've had Schiano too, which would be much better than you have. At least he'd have your team playing hard.

Man this is squarely at the feet of Fulmer. You guys should be taking to the streets demanding that his arse is put out to pasture for good. It's a damn shame how far back that fat bastard has set your program.

"Resent" is too strong of a word.

Tennessee has been out to pasture for ten years. Fulmer has had very little to do with that.

LOL! No. I'm not a UT fan but Fulmer was not in charge of the Ath Dept until about a year and a half ago roughly. The damage was done there on a consistent basis for about 8 to 9 years prior to that with poor hires and generally accepting declining performances. Pruitt will cheat and work like hell and he has a capable staff who will do the same. And Fulmer will provide cover and allow/encourage it and the SEC will look the other way past the cheating since that is the only way they can get back to winning. Reality. They are young as hell and can't play at an SEC level at others. Particularly on the line of scrimmage. A hell of a no no. Firing Pruitt ain't in the cards. That's a sure way to make their process last 6/7 years instead of the four year deal they are on now.

Reneging on an agreement with Leach was evidently Fulmer's choice.

I'd say he's had at least half to do with it. At least half.

And if your guys were smart, they'd send his arse packing. He brings nothing to the table as far as an AD goes. He clearly wants to steer the ship and he's running it into the ground.

Obviously, Alabama will never have to play any other "rival" east team, so it would help not only Tennessee but the rest of the SEC to get better and be more competitive.

Alabama has it too easy right now. Yes, they've earned some of it but damn the game would be a lot more interesting for the rest of us in the SEC if there was more competition -- especially in the East.

It isn't reasonable to think UT won't eventually improve again. Of course they will, but I do think it will be after Fulmer is replaced.

Getting rid of Pruitt isn't in the cards because he's Fulmer's guy. So, as long as Fulmer is in charge, one of two things is gonna happen: it's the Jeremy Pruitt show, or Fulmer is going to replace him himself.

And yes, Tennessee has been off the rails for a lot longer than during Fulmer's reign, but it wasn't THIS bad. The car was veering off the road and instead of getting it back in the right direction, Phil has steered it into the ditch. He owns it.

At this point, it's worth neither the drama nor the money to fire Pruitt and/or Fulmer.

Look, when I was at Tennessee for undergrad, I f-cking hated the way that university was run. Way too much money was wasted on the athletic department thanks to contract buyouts. It's absolutely ridiculous how much money UT will put into stadium renovations and hapless attempts to rehab the dead football program.

Let Pruitt coach until the end of his contact. No decent coach in the country wants to take the Tennessee job. Tennessee ought to allow Pruitt to learn from his own mistakes, and maybe, just maybe, he may become an average head coach with experience. I will be angry to see Tennessee waste even more money on Pruitt's buyout.

It pissed me off as a student there how little funding our labs received while the spoiled athletes who didn't win a damn thing in their sports and scraped through college with 2.4 GPAs got the lion's share of the money.

I would have hired Leach in a minute although Pruitt will do a better job building the talent base. Leach might be the most amazing college football coach in America over the past 12-15 years. But he also is not going to be "managed" too damn close. And my gut tells me he and Fulmer would have been a bad mix.

Fulmer hired JP because he will recruit. And will do whatever it takes to do that just like he did. JP. also knows the territory. They are tied at the hip but JP is gonna need to bring in a hell of a crop this year and win some games in year three (not 9 or 10 but he needs a 7/8 win year in 2020) and two more strong dog classes.

Fulmer is going to replace Pruitt WITH himself. I have little doubt that he's going to take over as HC at some point within the next calendar year.

I hate Fulmer more than anyone that's been involved with the program since he left with the possible exception of Butch. I despise him. Hard for me to cheer for the football program with him so heavily involved.

Many other VOLS fans will disagree strongly with me but I cannot stand the guy and I take some joy in watching his hand picked retard fail so miserably, though I do feel badly for Pruitt.

I would love to see Fulmer step in and try and coach and get his shite pushed in just as he did time and time again against any team with a pulse after Cutcliffe left and get run out of town once and for all.

They allowed social media to direct their coaching hire.
