re: so did Kiffin just not want to coach at Arkansas, or was the Ole Miss offer much better

Don't read much into that, obviously they know Pittman doesn't demand the salary that Kiffin would so why offer him something like that when you don't have t
But you can read into it that they were possibly looking for a similar type negotiation with anyone they hired. Kiffin has failed at 4 out of 5 HC jobs. I would have imagined that they had hoped to get him for a bargain.

I don't think so, we can go into a ton of rumors but most seem to line up that the offer was close to Ole Miss at the very least.
I think you can read into it, that they were looking for someone to accept similar contract stipulations which would be hard for any established coach to accept.

and this is why we're ALL laughing at Arkansas fans.
So you guys are celebrating that you hired a guy with a faulty moral compass? That's fine, I guess. After all, You Are Ole Miss.
No matter how it shook out with Kiffin and Yurachek I think Arkansas positioned itself better than did Ole Miss. Time will tell, but if Pittman's staff comes together the way folks think it might the Pittman hire is going to come off smelling like a rose.
to having the known cheater at a place fresh off NCAA Sanctions. What could go wrong? Ole Miss just out here living their best life.
ETA: can we get a status check on the Lane Kiffin burner phone situation? Does anyone know if he's bought one or not yet?

He wasn’t offered the Arkansas job.
Whether it was because he lost interest or we got gun shy because of his background isn’t known.

Ole Miss landed one of the best coaches, if not the, best coach of the class this year so Arkansas fans look foolish to act like they didnt want him.

the actual truth in all seriousness...
The usual (outwardly) holier than thou faction of our fanbase, and more specifically their men in the BOT, torpedoed the hire. On purpose. They demanded ridiculous levels of "moral clause" and "incentive clause" in the contract so as to intentionally piss Lane off, and left Hunter holding the bag on it.
The controlled "media" in Arkansas were instructed to scorch the earth on Lane. Little dipshit Wally did it and so did several talk radio whiners, admitted minions of the church of Malzahn.
These were all the same general people who did FOI"s on Petrino's phone records after the motorcycle wreck because they were still angry Petrino got the job in 2008 over their lawd and sav'ya Gus Malzahn. I'm no Jeff Long fan, but they blamed everything on him as well because he didn't hire Gus in 2013. Same folks who snickered when our dipshit PTB's let Malzahn use us for a raise at Auburn two years ago and then hired his little punk mouse friend from Texas Morris. Then two years later blame it on the asst AD lady Julie Peoples. All revisionists shite. So then this time - and it would have been different if Auburn had lost to Bama - the play was the make John Tyson happy and hire his buddy Butch Davis, so then 68 year old Davis could hand it off to L. Ron Malzahn in a year or two. Same folks who did all the prejudged insinuation of "moral character issues" on the Memphis coach who went to Florida State.
Same type folks who will eat three fully stocked fried chicken dinner plates, and reign down hellfire and brimstone on someone who drinks a beer.
Lane Kiffin would have been a heathen and not welcome in the Church of L. Ron Malzahn
They ran Kiffin off in 2017 and 2019. They ran the Memphis coach off in 2017 and 2019. Intentional. Left Hunter holding the bag.

The guy has the most well-known background of any coach hired this year. It's been on every media outlet for over a decade and is writ large on Twitter every single day.

and the new line that many Arkansas fans have swallowed is "Lane was never coming anyway." "He was never offered the job"
BS
Wally Hall himself wrote scorching vague BS stories about "many many good Arkansans had very serious concerns" and so did "the BOT" and OMG OMG SO BAD SO BAD. It's bad! It's bad!
Then after they ran him off with the moral clause and unrealisitc incentive clause level BS, the story shifted immediately - "Oh, it was just one member of the BOT with minor concerns, but it was never a problem."
Total bait and switch BS and that is what really happened. Some Arkansas posters will come whining about these two posts and they can preemptively kiss my arse.

No one is buying this, OK. Just take the L. I know your message boards tell you this to make you feel better but it simply is not true. There is a long list of schools, Alabama included, that got turned down by one coach only to make a better hire. Now in your case this is clearly not true

Ever seen girls from Arkansas compared to Ole Miss? Sometimes it's the obvious answers that are correct.
Posted on 12/12/19 at 5:29 pm to Harry Rex Vonner
Yep, that's what happened. Kiffin signed a MOU until Yurachek could get some BOT members onboard. Otherwise, he would have signed a contract, instead. When Kiffin tried to use the Ole Miss job as leverage, Yurachek cut him loose. Kiffin tried to backpedal, claiming he preferred Arkansas, but it was too late.
Carter offered Kiffin the same deal, but without the morality clauses. Kiffin jumped on it once he realized Arkansas was off the table.
