Snuck into the locker room after Iron Bowl as a child

I remember trying to sneak into the locker room after the Iron bowl as a child, just as I got into the door, Pat Dye trying time evade the press runs over me. I thought I was busted, but instead Coach Dye grabs my program and signs it. Got to go into the locker room and meet all the players. Audrey Bruce was the highlights. Heard Coach Dye was ill and was just thinking of the time I met him.

Pretty cool story.
I met tommy tuberville when we stormed the field in 2001 and won the sec for the first time in ages. Was a freshman and was just running around the tiger stadium turf yelling. Grabbed an endzone pylon and came face to to face with tubs. Called him a fig as I ran by. Immature I know

I met Coach Dye on a boat ramp outside Lake Martin when I was going fishing with my friends in the late 80’s.
He noticed my Auburn hat and came over and spoke with us for a long time. He loves Auburn and Auburn people. He signed my hat and I still have it today.

20 years or so ago I bought a tract of timber near Coach Dye’s farm and moved a logging crew on it to start cutting. I showed up one day and no equipment was running and there were no workers to be found.
I finally got one of the guys on the phone and Dye had came by looking for a bird dog that was lost and the whole crew shut down to go help him look for the dog.
He would drop by a couple days a week while we were up there working and shoot the shite with guys and I’m pretty sure have a drink or six.

That game was awesome. Aubie gets penalty for jumping on the eye, followed by saban calling for an onside on the opening kick off. Got it and proceeded to score on the first drive. Auburn returner got knocked out on the ensuing kick off. TS was rocking.

Pat Dye is a semi-regular at a place that my sister works at in Auburn. She says that he is a very kind man. I'm sorry to hear that he is sick.

Former Alabama DC Joe Kines nearly ran me over on McFarland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa. He was zipping through traffic.

I once made it into BDS in the mid summer while they were installing grass. Was able to roam around freely for nearly an hour (from locker room to tunnel); only reason the gate was open is the head lawn dude was at the stadium washing his car with his kids. He had no problem with teenage me and a friend exploring.

for years I kept my tshirt for that game in a gallon ziplock. I would open it once a year before the auburn game to smell the stale cigar smoke
