Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt as well as his uncle Ray Lee, who is worth an estimated $10 billion himself.
SMU board of trustees chairman David Miller, the founder of energy equity firm EnCap Investments, spearheaded the efforts.
Other notable SMU donors include:
-grocery chain chairman Brad Brookshire
-golf businessman Robert Dedman Jr.
-Invesco chairman emeritus Marty Flanagan
-financial services investor Gerald J. Ford
-top regional auto dealer Carl Sewell
-Texas Instruments chairman Rich Templeton
-Virginia Governor (and former private equity executive) Glenn Youngkin -Texas banker Richard Ware, among others.
-Members of SMU’s Circle of Champions commit to donating at least $100,000 annually.
Money is no issue.

SMU is an extremely rich white school. Lol…past Masters at paying football players. Does NIL mean SMU’s death penalty has been vacated since it’s now legal?

Ppl thought NIL would benefit Texas. But Texas has always recruited elite talent long before NIL. The other Texas schools should concern ppl with NIL. Look at Tech

Let me fix this for you.
“Texas has always paid and cheated to recruit elite talent long before NIL.”
You’re welcome. Lol

The stadium is completely unimportant. Between our two universities in Austin and B/CS we can have all the facility smack talk in the world, our egos will not let us do otherwise, but in this new era it’s not that important.
But those huge stadiums also produce a lot of revenue. Both stadiums generate over $50 million to the athletic department in ticket sales.
A small stadium that rarely sells out doesn’t come close to being that kind of money maker.

Stadium revenue doesn’t matter as far as NIL goes. It’s nice to have for the athletic department as a whole, sure.
Remember, SMU told the ACC to keep their TV money, just give us access. This ain’t about revenue for SMU.

a stadium with 90k + fans, being in a better conference, etc., ultimately make the difference?
I think a stadium under 40K would negatively affect a kids decision. More so, a conference. ESPN and the national networks flood eyeballs with the SEC and Big 10 which leads to (more importantly to kids these days) heavier social media attention, as does fans going apeshit in electric environments.

Finally, some decent professional football in the Dallas area.
