So when the season is over - this has to clarify itself, correct? I keep smelling Aggie hoax.

This is not good, Hartzell was the first UT president in a long time who truly understood the importance of sports (particularly football) when it comes to overall quality of the University.

Hope we make a good hire.

Yeah but it was just Austin flack. It seems louder because it's local but they have to remember that University represents the whole state, not just the town where its located. I hope our next President fights the good fight like Hartzell did.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.... There are plenty of other guys who are from Oklahoma that you could hire. And they would probably do just as good a job as he did.

They could have hired an actual homeless person and they would have been better than Turner.
idiot poster comment unsurprising.

Turner was hired to do one thing at SMU: raise money. And he raised a lot of it. For a long time.

He was an excellent President for the role the school needed at the time.

Ole Miss falling apart sounds more like a poor alumni or poor state issue. Neither of which were problems at SMU

Turner came to SMU after the death penalty.

He has been there 30 years.

I would say SMU is in a much better place then when he got there.

Can't blame Hartzell for leaving; he only has 1 boss now, at a private University, and doesn't have to deal with State of Texas and City of Austin bullsh*t.

UT has free tuition if family household income is 100k or less for Texas residents. We also have professors win noble prize equivalents in their fields often in STEM while also being ranked highly in CS, math, physics, and engineering. Cost keeps going up because state governments keep cutting funding to education.

FWIW, I am a 2x Texas Ex, one of those was in STEM. Texas was great at STEM long before tuition rates skyrocketed.

Texas is highly ranked, but freebies for families under 100k does absolutely nothing for the Texas middle class. Two income families over $100k are common, and tuition can be back-breaking for them. Academia and its administrative bloat needs to be brought back down to earth.
